okay so he liked lace so much because....?

I just don't understand why he liked her so much. She was so unlikeable, was a single mother with kids(baggage) and did I mention she was just so damn unlikeable? He was a genuinely good guy, he could do better. He could have put all that energy into someone who appreciated it and deserved it.

You have a point.

You'll likely never read this, but I got a genuine chuckle out of that masseur joke.

It seems to be a very small town he lives in, he's in his late 30's, he likes her kids and they seem to like him, and while she's no tremendous beauty, she is a good mom and a nice person and he genuinely likes her as well.

She doesn't seem to be a snob so she wouldn't have a problem with him being just an auto mechanic, and she seems content with small-town life so she probably wouldn't insist on them moving to a big city if they got hitched.

I don't recall seeing any relatives of hers in the film, maybe they pretty much died off, so if something happened to her what would happen to the kids if she died? They did need someone I think besides just her, and raising kids is really tough if you are just one person.

It would seem to be a win-win for everybody if they had indeed gotten married.

Looks are not everything.
And I disagree with most here.
Kyra is a lovely actress.

I never really thought about it. I mean George liked her so I just accepted it. Taking a step back and thinking about it, why did he like her. Well, I'm not sure. She was ok, she was cute, not unattractive. I never got the vibe that he knew her, but rather he just kind of knew who she was and was on a hello, goodbye level of interaction. Once he attempts to connect with her she does seem very off putting and cold and she gave him no encouragement at all.

That's the point where I guess the OP has their main argument. Why did he just keep trying so hard. Life isn't that hard, if a woman has interest in a guy she'll make it easier for him because she's wanting to meet him and get together so she'll usually help. When someone acts like you're a nuisance and they couldn't care less if they ever saw you again then they're not interested. I'm not really sure why he'd keep pushing. I didn't see anything in her, about her so great to just keep trying to force your way into her life.

I was wondering that as well. Too bad that she only accepted him after she found out he was dying.
She could have made his last days so much happier .

The heart wants what the heart wants. There is rarely any rhyme or reason to it.

By the end of the movie we see that George was right about everything including the relationships that he started and helped others mend. By the end we see that Lace cares deeply for him - there was something about her that he recognized as a kindred spirit and by the end we see that he was right about that too.

Are you honestly asking for a reason why one person falls in love with another person? REALLY??????
