... gets taken and held by those three Mafia men, as soon as he says "Joseph take a look at your father" and pulls out a remote control device for explosives to the car, why couldn't all or any of those guys shoot him on sight there and then?

Yeah, thought so, but still, he was surrounded by about 3 men or so at gunpoint, couldn't one of them at least have taken a shot at him?

Some of them tried but the Teacher was quicker, already a well versed hitman, which these guys were not.
