Typical Spike Lee trash;

I expected this to fall into the frame of 1* films done by spike lee. If it has his name on it; it's garbage. Stay away from this; and any other films involving him. The ONLY thing he ever did worth-while was Malcolm X at an even 5*.

I've enjoyed most of Spike's films, though I find it irksome that he has a habit of rarely actually ending a narrative. For the longest 'Malcolm X' was the only story of his which had an ending, & one can't credit Spike with the ending.
I loved 'Do the Right Thing'.

Maybe it's because he does most/everything himself with his films; but something about his movies doesn't quite sit right. Girl 6 just didn't have a point. He tries so hard to be different and to mimic foreign styles that he never, in my view, gets it quite right. I've always found the side stories with no ending or point, along with the lack of a real ending in many of his films to just put me off to the point that it's not worth paying the films at all. I always walk away from his work, for a number of reasons, feeling cheated; be it my 4.99 rental or my 9.99 theatre ticket.

Girl 6 truly seemed to have little point--aside from staring @ the exquisite Ms. Randle. He set up an interesting narrative & simply didn't tie it up.
Did you see the Inside Man?

If u say Girl 6 has no point then you obviously didn't GET the movie. As a matter of fact all of Spike's movies have a message of some sort. This one in particular was talking about the role of women in Hollywood and how lots of times they're xpected to sell sex, especially for Black actresses where there is almost NO roles.

It also talks about getting lost in your work, you can lose touch with reality, cutting off friends and those cloese to you, eventually making you feel alone. And thats how it was for her in the end... alone.

This is supposed to be loosely based on Susan Lori Parks, a famous black playwright and the writer of this film. Although she didnt become that famous actress, she landed on her feet, just as she did when she sold sex on the phone.

I do find it funny when someone hates a director/actor's work and yet seems to watch all of their films.

You can head over to criticker to see just where my interests lie. And no; UB doesn't make the top of my list of directors. That I find the gritty nature of his films with blatantly obvious storylines enjoyable actually only shows my age and my coming up on b, c, and z grade grindhouse films. I was born in the slasher years, and have a fond love for all things, er, cheap yet deep. Many cannibal and mono films all top my list over videogame films. And the hightst listings fall to foreign films (China, Japan, Thailand, Russia, and Sweden among others) Just FYI.
While I'm on this thread from yonder years: Should I have created a new post for this dislike, as the next poster stated, probably not. Does that make me a troll? not any more than you "finding" my post years, and years after to simply spout flamebate. And ofcourse I have yet again fallen for it.
With this statement; I'll say goodbye to this post forever.

What better way is there to know the films than to watch them? I detest Lee's films yet I catch them on the cable. This is certainly better than hating a director's work and then admitting that you've never watched any of his films.

To argue against '25th hour' being above a 1* is an objective fact, and incorrect. That film is good, really good. And the '*beep* New York', and 'Keep Driving West' monologues are two of the best I can recall in my lifetime of absorbing cinema references.

Why raise discussion without a point? Start a thread that says 'I don't like this movie/director'? You raise no point for discussion aside from disagreement or tangential references to 'Malcolm X', which surely has its OWN page. These useless posts piss me off when written as a new thread. There's already 'I hate this movie' posts here, raise a point or something.

Well I liked it.
It was a funny film about a woman consumed by her dead-end job. When it becomes too much, she skips town. Had a lot to say about the way in which black women are treated in the West (notice how various characters seemed to automatically assume she was a prostitute or that she'd be ok with going topless for an audition). It had a lot to say about the way that modern women have begun to treat their day jobs and how attached we're all in danger of becoming to the banal.
It also had a really good soundtrack.

I hope you've watched it again since you made this post, hopefully with your brain switched on and your prejudices switched off.

I "got" the film, and I still hated it, I hate spike lee, your standards are obviously lower than mine. How DARE YOU tell people that because they don't like something they obviously don't get it, you're a total arse

Why is this in response to me? A user named "Damian_Williams" wrote that not me.
Seriously WTF?

You hate Spike Lee but yet you still watched this film. Makes sense.
