Am I the only one who liked this better than Fargo?

I saw Fargo, and I was never particularly like "OMG THIS IS SO AMAZING THIS SHOULD WIN EVERY AWARD" but it was entertaining and fun to watch. The best part was their Minnesota/North Dakota accents. The story was funny, quirky and original but it just wasn't my favourite. However, when I saw this I was just blown away, I don't understand why people say it's boring and slow or too long. I think it was worth every minute, and sure it may have been almost 3 hours long, but who cares? If it had been any shorter it wouldn't have been the same.

Hard to compare. I don't think either movie is anything close to being great, but I probably like The English Patient a little better than Fargo.

Fargo was a piece of crap .. I wouldn't walk to my mailbox and back to see again .

Reading the comments in this thread is like listening to Elaine's crazy friends go on and on about how great of a film The English Patient was...And here I thought it was just being satirical.

Both are great films in their own unique ways. It's impossible to compare them, like oranges and apples, because they are different genres. If i want a quirky black comedy set in a wintry Minnesota, i'll go for Fargo. If i want a love story set in the baking heat of the Sahara, I'll go for TEP.

No. Fargo is a great movie (the second best of Coen Brothers after No Country...), but The English Patient is the most beautiful romantic epic of the last half century (since Doctor Zhivago). The acting, the cinematography, the music, the art direction, the screenplay and the directing are heartbreaking and wonderful. Ralph, Kristin and Minghella for the screenplay
should have received an Oscar and TEP would be the first one 12 Oscar winning film.

Here's where timing means a lot. 20 years later there are tons of movies like Fargo, but in 1996 it was very different. It had a pacing and mood that was completely unique, and that quirkiness has been imitated ever since so it seems common now.

Still though, that's the problem with an overall "best picture" award. It's ridiculous to compare movies from two completely different genres. I like both films a lot for very different reasons. Most people don't compare movies from two entirely different genres. It's like comparing the best QB to the best point guard. It makes no sense.

Another who preferred The English Patient to Fargo, even though I like Fargo a lot. TEP was a fantastic story set in a period of high drama. It featured some great actors and a stellar performance from Ralph Fiennes. Added to which was a tremendous soundtrack.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

Fargo is my #5 movie of all time with a 9 rating compared to TEP which I have rated 4/10 so it is clear enough where I stand on this comparison.

You were a WONDERFULLY intelligent female 3 years ago. And you're right, Fargo was very fun, but this is quality adult drama. It's a sign of your maturity you see this when so many older people who can't see it are so dumb.

Good, long movies are like long slow delicious orgasms.

Craigbhill you're just being pretentious.
What you're saying is, if you disagree with me you're immature. That's pretty much a paradox since you're being immature by just saying something like that.

The english patient dragged on and on and on. It is in my opinion boring and uninteresting, it took itself way to seriously. You can tell they put alot of effort in but the result was MEH. I have a feeling it's target audience is middle aged - older women, not 30 year old men.

Fargo on the other hand I liked alot.
