Theories on why no Jesse Hall

We've all heard the rumors. Brandon Adams was busy doing guest spots on TV shows and other films or he wasn't asked to come back because Kenan became the "token" black guy on the team. Too bad Jesse had a brother in D1 undermining the "token rule". And Kenan joined in D2. So I think "yes" it was him doing TV shows, but he was one of the most appealing characters on the team next to Charlie, Fulton, Goldberg, hot little Connie and Banks. But why not push to have one of the best players and "actors" in the series of movies come back for the finale? And I also noticed in D3, Charlie took elements of Jesse in the film. He calls Banks "cake eater". A term only Jesse used in D1 and D2. Charlie magically is a great sharp shooter after being one of the worst players in the first two films. Charlie leads the flying "V", something Jesse did in D1 and D2. And last but not least, Charlie has serious temper problems, just like Jesse did in D1 and D2. I guess only the cast and writer Steven Brill have the answer to why Jesse wasn't involved or even spoken of. The scene in D3 when Charlie and Fulton talk about Bombay and Portman leaving, Charlie could have easily said "And Jesse's not coming either. His dad told him he has to work and concentrate on school and not hockey". Real simple "Steven Brill and Disney". That's what's wrong with sequels when they "misplace" characters. You forget the people who love film and watch every portion of it and know when the filmmakers have messed up. I could care less what happened to Peter Mark, Karp, Tammy and and Tommy Duncan and Terry Hall(even though Jesse continued in D2), they didn't bring anything to the film. Jesse Hall did, he was an essence of the series. If you do D4, bring Jesse back DISNEY! Kenan couldn't carry that film as the black kid in D3. You played like two games in D2. I didn't buy it. That's my final word.

I agree. The writers gave Charlie a lot of Jesse's characteristics. WTF? You cannot have more than two black people on the team after D1. I would loved to see Jesse take on the Preppies. 

They brought back characters to each movie based on their popularity & likability factor. They ditched a few ducks from the first movie who weren't really "big factors" so they could bring in the newbies for the second. Then for the third one, Joshua Jackson (charlie) was one of the most popular characters so they basically wanted to make him the Alpha Male. The purpose of his character was for him the be the big shot & the only other Duck to rival him was supposed to be Adam Banks character. Jesse Hall just wasn't huge on the popularity scale for the movie & after Kenan Thompson was introduced in the second movie- he was just more popular & liked better. They wanted the cast to compliment each other basically. Hollywood is cruel, the moment you're not useful for them anymore- you get the boot.

Maybe on Disney terms. Let's go back twenty something years to "The Bad News Bears go to Japan". Now you say the characters that were liked were kept on. Tanner Boyle, the heart of the team was not in the part 3 of the "Bears" series. Neither was Ogilvie or Lupus. Three of the most "liked" characters in the series next to Kelly Leak and Ahmad Abdul Rahim. Kenan Thompson is a great character in D2, but he was rather annoying in D3. Jesse had a certain feel to him that made him different from the other players (and that's not a color thing). You're right, if Hollywood doesn't like something, they get the boot. But i'm calling out the fact that you say if you're not liked, you get the boot. Go watch Bad News Bears go to Japan and tell me your theory isn't a bit flawed. I know Mighty Ducks and Bad News Bears are two different movies, but same genre. When you get rid of characters that fans like, or change the people who play them, it angers filmgoers. But, I hear what you mean.

Anyone ever thought that maybe Jesse Hall had some personal *beep* goin' on? Like, a death in the family or an illness? It might've had nothing to do with the studio.
Charlie IS the Mighty Ducks. You couldn't have the film without him. He's the heart. Maybe they didn't use Jesse because they wanted Charlie to become confrontational or rebellious as opposed to making him that because they didn't have Jesse?

"Praise JESUS?! That's *beep* pushin' it! This *beep* 'bout as far from God as *beep* can get!"

Jesse was not a part of the film to emphasize the importance of Charlie to the team. The whole plot revolves about Charlie's growth, with the parallels between Orion and Bombay and the romance and what not. Jesse was the most rebellious of the whole team, opposing Banks and Tyler. Eliminating Hall allowed a lot of extra screen time for Charlie.

If you go back and watch the first two, Jesse had the most plot lines around him besides Charlie

I have to agree with the OP. Jesse was important to the team because he was an original Duck however, Kenn was godawful! He wasn't funny, he wasn't cool(no matter how hard they tried to push it), and he couldn't skate worth a *beep*

Jesse was noticeable absence and its ashame considering he was a good character, too!

oh I forgot to mention; OP hit the nail on the head.

is exactly right.

I believe Jesse wasn't in the movie because he was arrested shortly after D2 and became ineligible for scholarship.

It kind of makes sense that some of the D1 talent got dropped or left as they grew up and maybe grew out of the sport, they never really took it seriously and just got lucky with Bombay.

For example people like Tommy and his sister were only roped in out of desperation and never truly wanted to be in where as the D2ers where all Pros to have been scouted by the Hendricks Scouts and took it more seriously.

He probably didn't want to attend Eden Hall in favor of public schooling.

It's simple: the actor couldn't/didn't want to do it. That's it.

I heard a rumor that Brandon Adams chose not to return because he did not get along with Kenan Thompson

reply

False. I talked to Brandon Adams and he said that hr and Kenan were homies. It was more of bad business reason why he walked away.
