Episodes where ray was right and Debra was wrong

The annoying kid- the kid was rude to ray with pure intention of annoying him while he was a guest in his house and all Debra cared about was finally having adult friends

reply

Season 3, episode 20 "Move Over."

I totally side with Ray here, which does not happen often. It is completely legitimate that many people just can NOT fall asleep when someone else is touching him or her (not only do I personally know several people who are like this, I am also one of them). Debra has no right to get mad at him over that. Not only that, but he goes out of his way to get counseling from his priest to try to figure out what is going on and what he can do to fix it/make it better. He thinks he is sincerely solving the problem to give Debra what she needs that also gives him what he needs AND that does not require her to do anything extra aside from receiving the physical intimacy she wants and needs - poor Debra. *eyeroll* She is 100% out of line in this episode.

reply

I totally agreed with him on the dress for Ali's friends party.
Until he caved in.

reply

Because, as Debra said, he was so afraid his daughter would hate him that he "folded like a cheap tent". Because Ray had an unhealthy obsession with everyone liking him, you see. That was one of the more infuriating aspects of his already screwed-up personality.

The way Party Dress ended was pretty appropriate, though!

reply

Like that one time another sports writer, or commentator didn't much care for his work, and he wanted to desperately find out why.

reply

I don't know if it has been mentioned but the one where Debra throws out Ray's Muhammad Ali signed letter (or was it a picture?...can't remember). It wasn't so much for doing that but trying to manipulate and lie about it that bugged me. In all fairness, I also get upset when Ray lies too.

reply

and if memory serves me correctly he did exactly what Debra told him to do if he didn't want his stuff tampered with. And she still did it.

reply

I think there are times when Debra skimps when it comes to food and buys unhealthy snacks for the kids and frozen appetizers for parties. It's ironic because earlier in the show, Ray said that Debra cooks for health and cuts the fat off of steak, while Marie cooks for taste, regardless of fat content. After that, Debra isn't really ever depicted as conscientious about healthy eating, other than the tofu turkey episode and that was mainly because Marie wanted to eat healthier.

reply

Party Dress - He shouldnt have to buy a dress that is hella expensive

Wallpaper - Debra had been trying to provoke him for YEARS to lash out at his parents. When he finally does, Debra thinks he is being unreasonable. She kept poking the bear.

Here's a controversial one - The Can Opener. We never know the true story of the fight but I believe Ray was justified with why he was upset.

Mother's Day
Yes, Ray shouldnt have tried to patronize Debra into apologizing to Marie. However, Ray trying to end the dispute was the right thing and it was greeted with extreme hostility and stubbornness from Debra.

Working Girl

Debra goes back to work, but gets fired on her first day for arguing with her boss about Pete Za (an advertising idea she came up with for work). Then she gets all ungrateful and mad at Ray after telling her he helped get her job back.

reply

Well I can understand her there. Because that was humiliating. She was fired, knew she screwed up, and had accepted it. She was smiling when Ray came home the next night. She got over it.

But then he goes down there to beg for her job, and the boss hires her back out of pity. Going back there would have been even more embarrassing. Some may not care, but others don't like to be given things out of pity, especially when someone had to beg on their behalf. Ray felt the exact same way when he found out Marie begged that girl to take him to the prom /dance in Walk to the Door. Marie was trying to be nice and boost his confidence, and Ray felt horrible at being a charity case and having a girl go out with him out of pity and because his mom asked. Or jokingly replying he needed therapy when Debra has sex with him because of something Marie said. Or him being completely disgusted when he founds out Debra slept with him in the middle of the day because Marie came over and told her to.

It's nice to want to help, but some need to think before they act with it. because sometimes the "help" just further embarrasses someone, and it's hard to be thankful for that.

reply

Not long ago I devoted a post to how much I liked "The Walk To The Door". It's one of my favorite eps of the series overall. Did you happen to read that, Silverwolf? I hope you do, I'm rather proud of it.

reply

Normally I can't stand Ray...he's a selfish, momma's boy slob, who has had more than his fair share of cringeworthy moments in his treatment of Debra....but the one episode which I am pissed at Debra at is The Christmas Picture....this is Ray's gift to HIS mother, and no way no how should Debra's parents have been invited to partake...if Debra wanted to give a picture to her parents then they could do that, and I bet there would be no way no how Debra would want Fran & Marie horning in on a family picture that she's doing for her parents...

Ray tried to do something special for his Mom, something he knew that she specifically wanted, and in the end he gets screwed by Debra, and by Robert and his sulking over Amy not being in the picture...If you want Amy in the picture, then marry her where she is part of the family...sorry but girlfriends/boyfriends can be a dime a dozen, and are not part of the family...the photo should've been Frank & Marie, Ray, Debra & their kids, and Robert....period...

She wrong wrong in all of those episodes, in my opinion.

reply

All of them! She's a screaming, screeching shrew!

reply

Curling iron, curling iron, curling iron. Also, when she invites Peggy over to meet Amy's brother even though she knows Ray hates her and then acts like he's the insensitive one.

reply

When she tells him "I had to say I didn't know you" just because he wanted to eat at an otherwise boring event. At least he went with her! When he says "I would never do that to you" she realizes, (and so do we) that she's a terrible wife!

reply

Lateness and the curling iron and Bad Moon Rising with the PMS.

reply

"Boob Job", when he said "You went out of your way to get me to say I like breasts....yessss! and a nice butt too! I'm siiiick! You know when you should should worry is when I say I don't like those things!"

When she throws at him "You're obsessed with those things!" and he says "I'm not the one who had fake surgery..." He was so right, it was totally entrapment!

reply

I actually agree. Ray has the right to demand respect in his own house. I'd be damned if I let some kid talk to me like that. Maybe Debra should actually care a little more about her husband's feelings than people she just met.
