Why didn't Gary carry a cell phone?

If he had one it wouldn't been a lot easier for him to save people. I'm sure the newspaper wouldn't have a probelm with him making a few bucks off the sports section to pay for the phone bill. And yes, they did have cell phones back in the 90s. I had one when I was in the 9th grade in 98.

There was a episode where Gary had a cell phone. S2 ep #10 " A Bris Is Just a Bris" Chuck wanted to get free HBO so he signed Gary up for a cell phone. During the end of the episode Gary threw it in the trash because he didn't want it. Mostly because of Chuck calling and bugging him!

However back then it would not have been practical. Cell phones were a luxury for a lot of people and Gary had very little money.

There was that episode but it was in Season 1, actually, because I just watched it yesterday off the DVD. I don't remember which one exactly.

I am always saying to myself "My goodness that man needs a cell phone."

I can't imagine what Gary would do with a cell phone back then. I mean, what is he going to do? Call the people he wants to save and tell them to get out of the building before it blows up or something like that? So what if he has a cell phone? Back then, how many others had cell phones, and how would he know their numbers? And why would they listen to him? They never listened to him when he came up to them in person - suddenly they're going to obey a voice on a phone?

Well we know he wouldn't have individual numbers but a lot of times he was going to public places. Museums, libraries, schools, hospitals stores. He also got trapped in vacant buildings, alone & with Marissa. So yes at times a cellphone would have helped him. He also used a lot of payphones making calls to Chuck.

Leading the blind squirrels of inquiry to the lost nuts of illumination.

I got my first cellphone in 1995 and it cost me A$10 a month. I wasn't a business man either.

Actually, it was "Psychic", S1E18. It nearly cost him a save, talking on that phone.

mojo2004 says back then it would not have been practical. Cell phones were a luxury for a lot of people and Gary had very little money.

You were either a Doctor or someone on that king of pay or a drug dealer in my country back in 96 if you had a mobile/cell phone

Imagine Gary ith an iPhone, could've been a whole lot more productive.

Hard to believe how far we have come with cell phones since the late 90s. i didn't get a cell phone until 2005.

"Hey did you just take his wallet? He just took that guy's wallet!I think he took his wallet."

I think you're trying to put 2000's logic back into the 90's. Remember Hook when Robin Williams chucks his cell phone? In the 90's, basically business men had them and that was about it. There are episodes like "Just One of Those Things" where Gary keeps missing Patrick, that I kept thinking to myself, that a cell phone would have fixed that problem.

When Gary did carry a cell phone (season 1 "Psychic"), it was an annoyance and distraction to him.

While a smart-phone can increase productivity for some people, they can also keep people from being productive.

how?

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

Zack Morris had the only cell phone in the 90s, he used it to throw parties

Even though people did have cell phones in 1998, it was still a time when not EVERYONE had one.

Seriously, there were still lots and lots of people who did not have one and were not yet feeling the need to get one. The critical mass point snuck up later, but when this show started airing more people than not didn't yet bother to have one.

Hollywood is very slow to incorporate new technology. He could have used the internet as well.
