So did dexter start terribly sucking after 2001 with the new voice actor

I mean the animations and drawings really went for worse

And didn't they make a second "Go Dexter's family go!" episode? That was seriously terrible

I just need to know, was it just me or did it really go down hill the last few seasons?

I'm also just saying, I LOVE Dexters lab, I'm not insulting OLD, Original episodes, I'm insulting the terrible last season episodes

Kinda the same with Johnny Bravo's last season episodes.

Except they we're still okay, but he got less bad endings in the older episodes, same with dexter, They just wanted his life to suck in the new episodes

Anyone agree?

reply

I saw the 2001-onwards episodes for the first time a few weeks ago and yeah, gotta say I agree. Sometimes a different touch can work out well, but was definitely not the case here.

reply

Yeah, I remember being SOOO excited when I found out they were actually making new episodes only to be sooo disappointed when I saw they changed the animation, voices, writing(?), etc. (but especially the animation/voices).

Same thing with Johnny Bravo. It was bad after they changed everything. So disappointing... :'(

I agree with you. I mean, I can write better than that.

We can come up with better ideas than this junk.

Aw, thank god, I thought it was just me.

First two seasons: Amazing.
Last two seasons: Awful.

Same for J Bravo.

reply

I couldn't agree more.

It was terrible after Christine Cavanaugh left Candi Milo was a poor substitute she made him sound so squeaky, whiny, and nasally, and the animation was also very poor and the character redesigns were just as bad, Dexter's hair protruded like a chicken's, he had buck teeth, and a square shaped body, Dede looked retarded, their parents were too skinny, Mandark had a bigger head, and his teacher looked like he was drawn by a five year old.

reply

The animation was so so awful. I couldnt believe how bad they made it.

reply

I agree. The episodes got really bad after the rivial. It was because they got new people to work on it.

reply

I think they missed the trademark humour that both kids and nerdy adults can enjoy. I don’t even think of it as even the same show. The CGI is what really killed it for me … it’s what kills all cartoons! There’s no soul in it.

reply

yeah, everything went downhill in the last season. The first two seasons are the only seasons i even consider dexter's lab. And only considering those seasons I would say dexter is one of the best cartoons ever. they changed it so much that it wasn't even the same show. different character design, voices, writing, and animation style. And it all changed for the worse. Whoever thought that was a good idea better have gotten fired.

Genndy Tartatovsky (the show's creator) left the series after Season 2. He couldn't return for the 2001 revival of the series because he was busy with "Samurai Jack", another Cartoon Network series. Chris Savino (who had worked on the show since the beginning) was hired to head the show during Seasons 3 and 4.

I myself am a huge Dexter fan, and the changes didn't bother me that much. But I can see how jarring it would be to people who are used to the style and humor of Seasons 1 and 2. I agree that the humor was a tad sub-par, but it was still a satisfying revival overall. Not perfect, but satisfying.

On a side note, the first couple episodes of Season 3 (with the new animation and character designs) still had Christine Cavanaugh as the voice of Dexter. She retired from voice acting halfway during the production of that season, and Dexter was recast with Candi Milo for the remaining episodes.

The animation/voice changes always bothered me as a kid, especially Candi Milo's voice. Didn't care for a lot of the new writing either, like the fleshibg out of Mandark's family/backstory...I thought all of that was just unnecessary and stupid. I've always considered Ego Trip the final great hurrah of old Dexter. I watched the revival episodes intermittently for awhile, but I eventually stopped.

I'm for just considering Ego Trip the series end.

Are you all weak in the upper story?! I can't believe what I'm hearing! The last two seasons are so, SO much funnier than the first two! I also prefer the new animation and voice actor for Dexter, she sounds a lot better.

No, maybe it's you who is in the minority.

reply

Yeah, I totally agree with you. The series to me just feels like it went from amazing, from references everywhere, and amazing plotlines to the fact that they were trying too hard in the last legs of the series. It's not the fact of the new voice actor. That's a minor issue for me. I think the main problem is the humor just isn't there. Some episodes drag on for too long with senseless humor, that have no meaning. The episode with the three robots "riding that hog" really didn't do much for me. The end is funny, but this series was never about the robots lives. It was about a boy genius, and it felt like they were writing Dexter out of the plot in the last season. Also, the parents just don't have the humor they used to. I liked the random, funny things they did in the early seasons.

It just doesn't feel the same to me. The animation is brilliant in the last season, but it just feels like a change that happened too late.

The same thing happened to SpongeBob SquarePants after three seasons. They made a movie and then all of the subsequent seasons have been terrible.

reply

While not completely terrible, I found those seasons very underwhelming and sometimes boring.

reply

Yes.

reply

Yes, and the same goed for all those other CN cartoons from the 90s, like The Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo. Only the first couple of seasons are any good.
