Who's the father

I did not get why she would keep a child if she did not know who was the father was. It would only remind them of the hell he put everyone in if the child turns out to be not the husbands.

reply

Well, she said that she could not bring herself to do it, realizing that it may not be her husband's child.
She just couldn't terminate her pregnancy.

reply

I know in movies that sometimes all turns out well, but with all the battle scars, physical and mentally that kid if not the husbands, and especially if it's a boy, doesn't stand a chance in hell of making his first birthday.

reply

If you mean with all her emotional strain and trauma she's likely to miscarry or give birth to an unhealthy kid, yeah, that's realistic. However, it'd be pretty hard to tell for sure who the kid looked like at less than a year old. And the film made clear that Rob wasn't the kind of guy to hold an innocent child responsible for who its father might/might not be ("It's not the child needs killing"/"If a boy, name him Robert. If a lass, after my love Mary.")

Beyond that... explain, please?

It's easy to say you would take care of it but to do it is something a lot more frustrating. The remark made is more off the cuff than reality. As I think about it more I would doubt if he were to kill it. But to think they would be all smiles would be an exaggeration. They may in the end let someone else raise him and that would still be the right thing to do.

Most mothers can tell especially if they already have two children who the father is by at least a couple of months and with this situation, she would be looking very closely. It would not take a year, as her husbands hair was black and the rapist hair was a dark red. There looks were very different. Including eye color. With these differences she may know right away. just what would be the focus of major happiness when Right off the bat you know he is not true family.

just trying to keep it real.

I really doubt Rob would harm the child in any way, especially since theres no way to tell who's it is. My guess is its Archie's just from the way she reacted to Killearn's assumption that she was indeed pregnant with his child. She seemed to keep her cool up until that point, but of course no one knows for sure. Archie and Rob look very different so perhaps you could tell from the child's features but some siblings come out looking different when there actually full siblings, not half

Badger my ass its probably Milhouse

It is hard enough to raise a kid that may come from an affair but a rape and from a man who tried to kill you is something else. He was not that good. And neither is anyone else. Every time his kids stand side by side he will see the man who tried to kill him and who raped his wife. That cannot be learned. It would be best to let someone else raise the child as they already have two. That is a humane thing to do. The child still gets a life and one is not reminded of all that went on for it to have been brought into this world. The other parents would not know what happened, only the child is there blessing. The film tried to get to cute in the end and wound up giving us something far fetched.

reply

Actually she said i cannot kill it because it may be your child and i could not bring myself to kill your child.

All she says is that she couldn't kill it.

Because she feels it might be Robert's child, and it is. Watch carefully, when she and Rob make love by the stones, she says the elders believe the stones have a magical power to make women fertile. That's the moment the baby is conceived, between her and Rob beneath the mystical stones.

reply

That may be true but for keeping up the drama it was made clear that it could also be Archie's child. This is done on purpose for which ever way one wants to see it. The movie seems to try and make a point of whoever is the father he will be in good hands with both of the parents being honorable even if it is far fetched that anyone acts as they do. As I said in a previous post in the end they should have left it as he defeats Archie and returns home.

That's what I thought too Skyko2000. This was not just a love-scene, there was a message hidden for the viewer in that whole standing-stone story, to tell us that Rob was the father.

reply

Yeah, because magic stones exist 🙄

reply

The whole point of the movie is that Rob was not like most men. His honor is strong he will raise the child just as it was one of his own. He is that strong.

Sometimes you can use eye color to determine offspring, but in this case it seems to be difficult. Archibald appears to have green eyes, Roy has blue and the wife has brown. If the kids eyes are brown it's impossible to tell who the father is, if they are blue or green it becomes more likely for one or the other, but still too open to know for sure.

reply

The eye thing is just as you say.. i just feel it should not have even been written in the script. It was Way over the top.

She is gonna keep the child becuase she liked that intense shagging.
