well, am I the ONLY one that loves that movie so much?

I`m really really surprised. In a bad way. I`ve watched The Quick and the Dead a year ago and even though I`ve already seen some classic westerns like Unforgiven by that time, I really enjoyed this one. I liked it so much, that it became one of my favorite movies ever. Come on, folks, it has it all! Interesting story, intriguing plotline, compeling characters, brilliant soundtrack, very good cast! There`s enough of action to makes you even don`t blink till the end. There`s a depth in the main characters and I`m really surprised most of you doesn`t find it...amazing really! I can`t understand why the h*ll you think Sharon`s not good in this one..she`s marvelous!..She can act with just a blink of the eye, her expression tells more then every word could tell. Heckman also is bloody briliant in this one, as always by the way. Crowe also shines in his younger years,he makes very believable character!Even DiCaprio wasn`t that bad also...I mean I really don`t get it, people. I`m so confused. One of my favorite movies with such comments here?!
Oh, and I love the idea of cliches. Yes, there are so many cliches in this movie, but in a strange way, they just make it even better! Particulary in westerns, I really like cliches, unlike every other genre.
Please don`t jump on me saying I don`t know what the real western is. I`ve seen Once Upon a Time in the West, Unforgiven, Fistfull of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Magnificent Seven and so so many more, I`m huge western fan, so I know very well this gender. It`s just The Quick and the Dead which shines above the others along with Unforgiven and Last Outlaw. Best westerns - and maybe movies - in all times.

It is a fun Western. We finished watching it last night, just love the final scene with the explosions and the final shootout. What fun! Raimi must have
had a blast (pun intended) making this genre film!

This is an entertaining film. There's some fun scenes, and some amusing characters with a couple decent performances (and a few awful ones). It's not a bad way to waste some time if you got nothing going on, but let's be serious. I can hardly consider this a real western. It's an incredibly mindless movie filled to the brim with stock characters. Evil sheriff, check, cocky kid, check, hero out for revenge, check, ex-con mending his ways, check, gunslinger whos more talk then walk, check.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, and it works in the film. But to compare this to classics like Unforgiven, The Outlaw Josey Wales, TDTBTG, etc, is just nonsense. Those are master-class films with Academy Award caliber acting, deep narrative, complex characters, and stunning cinematography - among other many brilliant aspects.

Almost all of the characters in TQATD are there to be killed. We don't know a thing about them, and while the gunfights are amusing, we're basically just waiting for the showdowns between the main characters. Another major flaw is the conflict between the Lady and Hackman. He killed her Dad when she was young, so how come now all of the sudden 20-30 years later she's out for revenge? What was she doing in between? It would have been nice to fill in a little of her backstory and pronunciate the connection she had with her father.

But I get it, this is a mindless, yet fun film to enjoy and not really think about. And at that, it succeeds better then a lot of Hollywood dreck. I just think it's kind of silly that people could consider this a truly great western. But to each his own I suppose...

The films to which you should be drawing comparisons are the 'spaghetti westerns' of the 1960s, which were cheap, over the top and full of two dimensional characters. But tremendous fun.

The Quick and the Dead is simply spoofing them.

"It is a fun Western"

That's exactly the word I was thinking! It is a fun Western, and it's action packed, a little sad in parts, and exciting and thrilling in others. I feel so bad for the little girl trying to shoot the rope of her father's noose. If I were director I'd try to draw out the suspense of that scene a bit more, maybe have her hit the rope and nick it halfway before her fatal errant shot. But yes, this is a good fun movie!

No, you're not. I watched this last night and I LOVED it.

The Titanic sinks. Henry is the the killer. Dean is Batman

I enjoyed this movie very much, very entertaining. A tournament gunfight with bracket and all, I do not think that I have seen that in a western. It definitely has Sam Raimi's touch for the way he liked to movies at the time. Kind of a Darkman feel to this movie.

First there was the abacus, then the calculator came along and broke the abacus.

I love the movie too, because for one, I am a Gene Hackman fan. But like so
many people have said already, it is pulp fiction. And pulp fiction is not
bad. It's nice to get away.

Stone does not have a lot to say, but she says a lot with her expressions. I
was happy when she did away with several people. Hackman is bad so often,
is he ever good?

Absolutely not the only one... I have adored this film since I first saw it. A wonderful 'love letter' to Spaghetti Westerns that doesn't take itself seriously, is genuine great FUN, and has an amazing cast of some of my favourite actors ever.

Even Crowe and Di Caprio, who I normally dislike in films, were great, and Hackman and Henrickson are both flat-out awesome in this.

It might not be the most loved western around, but its one of my favourite films because its just fun to watch and makes no pretensions to be anything else. I'll seriously watch this more often than a LOT of more serious, well regarded westerns, in fact. For me, this is up there with my mix of (oddly-matched) favourites: Unforgiven, Young Guns, Tombstone, El Dorado and For A Few Dollars More.

Oh, and I was pleased to see someone else hasn't just seen - but likes - Last Outlaw! Another fun-if-cliche western with an amazing cast.

I, too, like this film, it is entertaining and the actors are all famous. The first time I watched this was, though, because of Russell Crowe, whom I like very much.

Ditto. Crowe drew me in. It's now one of my favourite films.
