Ed Harris' greatest performance

Ed Harris was so stinkin' incredible in this film! He's a remarkable actor who has given a number of great performances. In Pollack, he was outstanding. A Beautiful Mind, The Truman Show, Apollo 13, The Rock, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Abyss, Absolute Power: all great performances. But his role as Blair Sullivan is my favorite. It was one of the most intense characters I've ever seen. And one of the biggest impacts for someone only in a few scenes of any movie. When he banged the table and started yellin' at Sean Connery, he was like a possessed maniac, and it was freakin' awesome! Ed's a tremendous actor, and I loved his performance in this movie. Truly remarkable.

I totally agree. He is one of my favourite actors. I loved him in The Rock and thought his performance in Just Cause was incredible. He can play anything. He was even good in Stepmom! I find him sexy!!!

I love Ed Harris too. For me he is a lot like Alec Guiness who, like Harris does, disappears and all you see is the character.

If you watch Guilguid or Olivier or others doing Hamlet, say, you see Guilguid's Hamlet or Olivier's Hamlet.

With Guiness (and Harris) you see Hamlet.

Harris scared the crap out of me in this film.

I knew he was a good/great actor, but I did not know he was capable of this.

Killer (pun intended) performance.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I agree, Ed Harris' performance in this was the only thing noteworthy about this otherwise rather unimpressive film.

I agree. He is a sorely under-rated actor. While I think his smallish role in "Just Cause" was one of his better--if not best--acting performances, my favorite character of his is Bud in "The Abyss".

As Bud, for the bulk of the movie, he is completely convincing as the blue-collar, rough-neck tough guy, but during the resuscitation scene he just explodes with passion. Amazing transformation.

Ed Harris really steals the film. Fishburne was great as well but Harris was really scary in this film! Should've gotten an Oscar nom for sure!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

I agree with you 100 per cent. He was sooo convincing as a psycho killer. His performance in this film actually made me notice him

reply

Agree. I actually find Ed's creation of psychopath Blair Sullivan much scarier than Anthony Hopkins' hannibal Lecter or Kevin Spacey in 7even.

reply

Ditto.

Except I found Spacey's character in "7" more, I guess "Diabolical"; except that's not (quite) the word I'm looking for:):)

Agree. I actually find Ed's creation of psychopath Blair Sullivan much scarier than Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter or Kevin Spacey in Se7en.

Nah. Harris totally sucked and he made an egregious mistake in taking on this bogey man role. Over the top barely describes his embarrassing portrayal. His character was far more suited to The X-Files than to this purportedly "believable" crime drama.

1. I can't think of a role he's played where he wasn't excellent???
2. I (and my siblings, 2 sisters, 1 brother) agree with you.
