The most horribly-dated sci-fi film so far? Still fun.

So it wasn't up to standarts even then, but the picture still enjoys cult following since this is the only William Gibson adaptation we've got (I don't count the New Rose Hotel, this one is even looser-based on a Gibson story). I think it pretty much summons the dorky 90s cyberpunk wave. With the Internet and new gadgets popping out of nowhere everyone was still confused and not like all of us actually knew how did the Web look like.

Now, everyone who is spoiled by Matrix and post-Matrix cinema, do you view the movie as a camp classic? I think it still has some chance to be one, plus 320 Gigs aside, the story wasn't that bad, ain't it? For me, Johnny Mnemonic occupies the same niche as futuristic architectural projects from 1950s - the future that never was. A piece of steampunk culture, of sorts.

Not sure they'll be re-issuing this one on Blu-ray that often so when it's on telly - get your VCRs and record the damn thing.

Not in the real world no, but we're talking about this films reality where people are walking around with brain memory implants and the internet can be entered as a vitual reality.The point is there must have been a simpler way to get the data from A to B. I mean the scientists didn't need to send the data via someones brain or email or fax or any other way. They were giving it to the rebels anyway so why didn't they just publish the whole thing on the internet? Also, why was there only one copy of the cure? Wouldn't have been too much trouble to make multiple copies and at least have a contigency plan.

Who knows, maybe because it was just stolen from PharmaCom, and they didn't have the time too, these people were scientists, that worked there and clearly they were not experienced in espionage.
