anyone know what ground was used as the kennell?

They showed it from the outside, I'm thinking Kennelworth Road (Luton) I know it wasn't Millwall's, who the film was apparently based on

Have a look at the filming locations, im guessing that the kennel was probably filmed at more than 1 ground.

Centenary Market, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England, UK

Leyton Orient, London, England, UK

Millmoor Football Ground, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England, UK

Selhurst Park, London, England, UK

The Den (Millwall), London, England, UK

The Tower Thistle Hotel, Wapping, London, England, UK

Valley Parade, Bradford City Football club, Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, UK

na it wasn't, I'm a fan and it wasn't the gate definitely

reply

The inside was Millmoor, Rotherham United

Sheffield Train Station, when the first train arrives and they get a coach it is Sheffield that I'm pretty sure of, they get off a train and walk over a bridge that is Rotherham station.

The scene where they walk to the ground in a road full of houses and stop at the 'Kennel' looks like Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road to me.

Terracing scenes include Rotherhams Millmoor - the scene in the corner where Gumbo gets a dart in his face, the first time J&T go to a game also.

The taking of the home end is at Valley Parade - Bradford, John is dragged onto the pitch and then runs into the Shadwell end, which is actually the same end he's just come from as the stand at the opposite side is a two tiered seater stand.

Rotherham's ground is used when they are all seen walking down a long passage, the Market scene's are also Rotherham.

I'm not 100% but I think some scenes are in London, i.e. the chemist's scene.

I don't think any of this film is at Millwall or Sellhurst Park at all, people may be getting it mixed up with the firm.

it seems most of it was shot on location in Yorkshire.

That was definatley Sheffield train station. Not too sure about what ground it was.

On watching the film again last night I realised that the chase to the chemist scene (where trev jumps on the bus) is shot on Dunton Road in Bermondsey, SE London. I think many other scenes in the film were shot around that area, posing as Shadwell & Wapping (East London). Bermondsey is near The Den; Millwall's ground.

Tyneburn FC (where Gumbo gets a dart in his face) is definitely Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road. I'm 100% certain.

Both stands shown have been knocked down recently though.

reply

no thats Rotherhams ground.

having just watched it i can say that the majority of the filming on the terracing is millmoor (rotherham)
the only time that the den is used is during scenes shot outside - you do not actually see inside the ground at all
other than that a lot of the film is shot around new cross, lewisham and bermondsey area with the football scenes all ahot in yorkshire as at the time of filming there were more grounds that were still as they were in the 80's.
remember when the film came out in 1995 a lot of grounds had been redeveloped since the 80's with millwall being a huge example

reply

Absolutely agree. Tower Thistle Hotel especially - don't know London that well but when the 3 firms have the meeting at the hotel and you can see Tower Bridge in the background - I'm assuming that's the Tower Thistle!
Plus I don't remember there being any hotels in I.D.
And Yeti's ground was Selhurst Park ("he's bottled it"). Not sure about The Den though. Most likely that was for I.D. but external shots only.

reply

it's Bradford Citys ground Valley Parade

reply

its only one game that they use millmoor - i know this because of the millmoor cafe, and the graffiti you see on the wall by the away stand that is still there

I was an extra in the film along with 3 of my mates. We lived in Peckham at the time and saw an ad saying they wanted extras.

We were in the bus ambush scene which was filmed where the Millennium Dome is now. My 3 mates were selected to be coppers, and you can see them in the line up when they get out of the police van, but I was on the bus, in the second row so you can't actually see me.

Now the recruitment area for this film was South East London; where The Den is (I am Millwall fan myself) so we all knew this was going to be a thinly disguised dig at Millwall. For this scene they told all the extras they wanted it to be realistic when the bus was ambushed. But they didn't count on everyone being quite so "enthusiastic" whilst playing their part, so the bus got rather more trashed than they bargained for. I heard stunt driver saying he couldn't drive the bus back to it's depot because of all the damage ;-)

The next day I wasn't able to work, but my 3 mates did; they went to the Brisbane Road (Leyton Orient) for a couple of scenes. One of my mates has a really big close up as he was right in front of the stars as they were walking down the road next to the ground.

Anyway, we got £50 a day for that.

Well I know for a fact that the scene where one of the characters has his face cut at an away stadium was shot at valley parade. I was an extra for 2 days so there was quite a lot shot in Bradford of the stadium stuff.

I was even lucky enough to be centre screen with no one else around me in one shot for about a whole 10 seconds, which my friend was annoyed about because he spent the two days next to me and he was no where to be seen, think they may have digitally removed him :)
