No comparison or quality to Elle Woods (or Legally Blonde)

I was never a huge fan of Alicia Silverstone, and presently not. She is a mediocre talent, if that. And while she was decent in The Crush, she was miscast here. Many of her scenes are just oh-kay, and most of her lines fall flat; though they are intended to be funny.

Stacey Dash as Deonne, was by far, the real thing. This is an actress who can act.

Silverstone may have been eye-candy, but that measures zilch in real quality; probably why she hasn't appeared in anything big, since. At least Reese Witherspoon can act. She blasted Elle Woods out of the park...all the way to Broadway. Too bad Reese wasn't cast as Cher. She may have skyrocketed this films' ratings and overall quality to an A, instead of a C+

Renfield...I meant for you to use the drain pipe. I fly, you don't!

Elle Wood is a cartoon character though. Cher is based on Jane Austin's Emma, always in other people's business, spoilt, bratty even and in this one not always likeable. She's not a ditzy person with a heart of gold. She's critical, judgemental, snobbish and like the title *beep* Clueless.

Stacey Dash also can't and couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Brittany Murphy acted circles around Alicia and Stacey.

This film has critical acclaim and is a cult classic.

I don't like the Legally Blonde movies. Reese Witherspoon is okay and I like some of her movies, but I thought Elle Woods was boring. I don't think I would have liked anyone else playing Elle, either.

I liked what Elle stood for...

She was the sweet, naive university ingenue co-ed, who ultimately gets dumped (or should we say Duped) by her longtime dude (not man, there's a maturity difference), whimsically switches majors just to be with him (or later, keep tabs on him) struggles to maneuver her West-Coast Barbie-girlishness into the stricter, more refined (and intelligently sophisticated) East Coast Harvard world... to suddenly discover that she truly has a brain, and such devours the challenge in proving to herself - and the Harvard business community - that she is just as smart, capable, and tough as them.

You know...Even if you didn't make my Sorority, I at least would have been nice to you!
Oh yea? Is this before or after, you called me an unpretentious dyke behind my back!
I don't use that word... You probably heard it from Vivian!

reply

I disagree. I dont think anyone could have played Cher as perfectly as Alicia did.

+1

But, the difference between the two is that Cher is a little kid (in my eyes) and thus Alicia Silverstone did good playing a kid in high school. Elle is an adult in her 4th year of college. She's in a sorority and about to get married. She's had a lot more experience in life than Cher has. You can't expect her to have made Cher so grown up or she really wouldn't have passed for a teen.

Super late post, but, I think what I loved about AS in Clueless is that a lot of her acting in was actually ad-libbed. She was genuinely a teen and they kept a lot of her innocent mistakes in the movie to make it as real as possible. By the time RW was doing Legally Blonde she was an established actress with technique and skill already on her side. I think Alicia was perfect in Clueless. I love Legally Blonde too, though. So I'm not biased on either side.

I never bothered to make the comparison between Elle Woods and Cher, this is a great topic when I think about it both was popular and had their sayings and loved fashion. I think both are pretty cool but I would go for Cher.

reply

I think Cher and Elle would be friends instantly because they have similar interests.

reply

Nah I disagree. I really like both Elle Woods and the Cher character. They're both fun movies and great characters and I like both performances too.
