Was Tony Spilotro that much of a hothead?

As his fictional counterpart of Nicky Santoro was in the film? I know Tony was ill-tempered, but as much as he was portrayed to be in the film? Either way, Tommy in Goodfellas was way worse.

According to the people that knew him. Yes Tony Spilotro was that much of a hothead and quite ruthless when taking care of business.

reply

Absolutely.

The are several mob related documentaries about him that appear on the various cable channels from time to time.

Dude was a bad mother *beep* Stone cold killer.

But was Spilotro really that reckless? To openly defy police was foolish enough, but to also defy the bosses whom he was supposed to obey???!!!

Tony Spilotro was the Mobs man in Vegas. He was there to make sure that nobody tried to screw up their operation. And he followed orders that were given to him.

But as time when by, problems started to pop up. Just like in the movie. Tony Spilotro was banded from ever casino in Las Vegas. And just like in the movie. Spilotro formed up his own crew, the Hole in the Wall gang. And just like in the movie. Spilotro and his crew would steal anything they could get their hands on.

Spilotro started to get reckless in Vegas when he looked at the town as his, and not the bosses back at home. He was there, not them. So Spilotro stopped caring what the bosses at home thought. As long as they got the money from the Stardust. They shouldn't care what he was doing in Vegas.

And again in the movie just like in real life. When Tony Spilotro moved to Vegas. Frank Rosenthal (Ace in the movie) told Spilotro that the police in Las Vegas were not like the police back at home. The police in Vegas didn't care who you were or what neighborhood you grew up in back on the east coast. The police in Las Vegas were brutal to criminals or trouble makers in Las Vegas. So when Spilotro started to get reckless in Vegas. The police started to going after him and his crew.

Remember the scene in the movie where Nicky and his gang went out and shot up the cop's houses. Well, Spilotro's son didn't like that scene in the movie. He said yes his father's crew did shot up the police officers houses. But that was after the police went out and shot up some of the houses of the Hole in the Wall gang a few days earlier. So Spilotro and his crew went out for revenge on the police.

The police in Vegas were actually sympathetic to the mob, until they were all cleaned out after spilotro and his associates started running amok and getting attention from the federal government and voters.

Tony wasn't a hot head as much as he was just wanted to do his own thing. The outfit had no idea what he did on the side, made some extra money and ran the town cuz their was no one to stop him. Had he layeD low he could have kept the outfit calm, but once he brought attention on himself, he brought attention on them. From what I read he wasn't a hothead he just Hated cops.

reply

I just don't see how a man of his stature could do that much damage.
