Why did McDonalds have an ad campaign for this movie?

I get that it acts as a scene backdrop but I really don’t understand why McDonalds had an aggressive ad campaign with this movie. I remember going to the restaurant when I was a kid and seen posters hanging up on everywhere for the movie and happy meals containing the main characters
