So what happened to Morrison’s wife?

Morrison very fittingly gets his revenge on the English Lord who took her away on their wedding day...The English Lord says all frightened to Morrison as he realized he’s about to get beaten to death by a mace....”I never did her any harm, it was my right.” That last part wasn’t very smart considering the guy in front of you is already pretty pissed off.

But if we take his word...he never did her any harm...then where is she? Did he just have his way with her and then killed her? Or let her go and she killed herself out of shame and grief?

I’m guessing the latter. Even if she made it back to the village...she would be seen as soiled, an untouchable.

She was sent to York to work in a brothel. That's why Wallace and his merry men sack York.

reply

I know you’re joking but that’s not a bad theory. She probably did get sold off to some brothel after Lord Bottoms had his fun with her.

reply

There's nothing in the movie that suggests she died, or even went anywhere though.

It's just as likely she went back home. Since she was less than a minor character, borderline irrelevant really, the movie didn't dwell (or even touch) on her story after her "purpose" in the film had passed (to show that Longshanks and his Lords to be a particular breed of evil).

IMO, anyway..

reply

Maybe. You’d think Morrison would be seen with her again...even if briefly.

reply

Why would she need to be seen though?
We could just deduce that she returned home afterward and life went on.
She's too small a character and part of too small a six-story (hardly even a "side-story", just one literal scene to show the "prima noctae").

Even Morrison himself isn't a huge part of the story/movie. He's got a handful of scenes and appearances, but not enough for his personal life or family to be brought up or explained.

IMO.

reply

Well, if I understood the point of "prima noctae" it implied that the lord of the land merely slept with any newlyweds on the first night of her wedding. After that, she may well have been let go.....
