When is this set?

Is there any discussion anywhere as to what year(s) the designers and prop people, etc., used as focal points for this film....or, are there clues in the dialogue?

The Victorian era was so long, I'm always interested in exactly which decade we're supposed to be in when watching something.

Charles Darwin published his book "on the Origin of Species" in 1859. By the 1870's most scientific people accepted his theories on evolution and were doing their own field research. That should narrow it down.

1862. Adamson states this in a voiceover in one of the scenes about the ant colony book.

That fits with the silhouette of the women's’ costumes. (1860s)
