i hear ya,he is taking himself to serious methinks

Of course, it's a crime he wants to evolve as an actor, because he doesn't want to be "the crazy guy with the funny faces making these movies where he is crazy and makes funny faces and stuff", especially considering his talent as an actor in serious roles. Let's list the oh so very few comedies he has done:

Ace Ventura
Ace Ventura 2
The Mask
Liar Liar
Batman forever
Dumb & dumber
The cable guy
Me, myself & Irene
How the Grinch stole christmas
Bruce Almighty
Lemony Snicket's A series of unfortunate events
Fun with Dick and Jane

So I really hope this thread was just a joke.

i didn't know a series of unfortunate events was a comedy

"sir, sir, i gotta check and see if you've soiled yourself, I'll get to you in a moment, sir!"

or Batman Forever...for that matter.

"or Batman Forever...for that matter."

If that movie wasn't a comedy then I will no longer laugh at it.

I'm just here to remind you that I'm a *beep* badass.

i laugh at it knowing it is actually being serious....and then break down realising how bad the films actually got.

"sorry, unlike my credit card rating, i hold very little interest"

Batman Forever is better than Batman and Robin, plus Jim Carrey's part was very humourous in that film.

reply

Batman and Robin is the worst

Well duh !

No one said 'crime', just mentioned an observable fact about 'forgetting'. Is it a crime to say observable facts or talk about forgetting?

In my opinion, even though he can be a 'serious actor', his MAIN TALENT is to be the 'crazy guy' you mention - a bit like so many other comedic actors, like Steve Martin. He may have done 'serious' things and tearjerkers, but what I remember him from is things like Planes, Trains and Automobiles - his rage in that movie is so incredibly funny (the F-bomb scene and the 'throwing the ticket away in rage' scene), it clearly shows THAT is his talent. He even identified himself as 'wild and crazy guy' for a long time.

I don't know why these comedic actors with clear talent for some kind of 'wackiness' or 'craziness' always try to later on become so serious and full of themselves. If someone is a genius of 'crazy' (like Robin Williams, for example), they should just stick to that. There are enough 'serious' people in the world, there aren't enough comedic geniuses in the world.

When you watch these movies where he's funny, you can see how naturally comedic, funny and expressive he is, and what a loss it is to the world if he stops doing that and just sticks to 'serious' stuff.

Just because he can be a 'good serious actor', doesn't mean he should abandon this wilder, funnier character he's so naturally good at playing.

I guess he got tired of it, or scared that people could never take him seriously (understandable, but still a loss). He was at his peak during these movies, and anything he's done after Liar, Liar, is just not fun, interesting, entertaining or above mediocre in any way. I don't mind seeing him in serious roles sometimes, but Cable Guy was too much of horror without the funny stuff, Bruce Almighty was just a failure as a movie in so many levels, and the other movies are just boring, depressing, melancholic and horrible messes.

The only good-ish 'serious' role was the non-sensical The Truman show. He was okay.
