Is Freddy Krueger still alive at the end of the movie? Is he alive now?

I've been watching all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies in order of release. I just finished Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Now I have questions about how killable Freddy Krueger really is, and whether he's canonically still alive right now.

In part 6, they seemed to establish that the only way to kill Freddy is to bring him into the real world and kill him there. Killing him in the dream world doesn't do anything. In New Nightmare, Heather kills Freddy in the dream world, which means he's obviously not dead. Additionally, didn't Wes say that the only way to keep Freddy dormant is to keep making movies about him? The Nightmare on Elm Street remake (which I haven't watched yet) came out 11 years ago, so does this mean that canonically, Freddy is currently out there terrorizing Heather? It's a shame that they haven't made a new movie (such as a sequel to New Nightmare) to address this. Unless I'm misunderstanding something?

This wasn't the same Freddy. In this movie, Freddy Kruger is fictional. The Nightmare movies are just movies - it's just that an unrelated demon is simply drawn to them and takes strength from them. The same rules do not apply.

The 2010 movie is a reboot, and does not follow any sort of pre-existing canon.
