Why do you think Street Fighter never became a cult film?

I wonder why, as far as I know, Street Fighter never become a Cult movie. Although it's fit many of the criteria of Cult movie, no fanbase formed around this movie. We seen many people who loved the movie but no enthusiastic and devoted fans who deeply invested in the movie - in other words, a taste community never formed.

Yes, Street Fighter is a mainstream movie, and not niche, low-budget movie or subculture as many Cult movies are, but the movie itself is far from typical video game movie. They used untraditional ways adapting that video game. The movie also considered a box office failure worldwide as most Cult movies are.

My biggest argument based on the movie quirkiness. It's start with the general lighting atmosphere and the memorable and strange and silly characters (I don't think it's necessary to give examples). Other thing is catchphrases, Cult movies known for the one-liners.

I really surprise there is no fan base around Street Fighter and not even a site.

So, why do you think Straight Fighter never became a cult film? Do you think, the same as me, that the movie deserve to became cult movie?

I’ve always been a big fan of Street Fighter the movie, as a little kid and equally as an adult, and feel as though it reached cult status some time ago, and is deserving of such, imo, it’s well written, shot, acted and is even hilarious at times, and not unintentionally so, like Steven Seagal films. The director did a remarkable job, especially given what he had to work with, budget constraints, shooting in the Philippines, I think, hurricanes or monsoons wreaking havoc on production…. JCVD high on coke for the entirety of the production and sleeping with multiple cast members/production crew…., it’s a miracle the film was even finished, and the fact that it came out the pipe in all its quirky yet competently polished awesomeness is beyond me.

If I’m wrong and it hasn’t reached cult status, well that’s a damn shame.

I searched the internet and found no proof that Street Fighter has become a cult film. During my search, I came across some articles about the movie mentioning its status as a cult classic, but I couldn't find a dedicated fan base.

I hope you're right and the movie has indeed reached cult status.

From your description, it seems like the shooting was one big mess, which oddly adds to the movie charm for me.

I watched the movie as a kid in the theater and loved it. While I still believe that the first Mortal Kombat is better, I found Street Fighter enjoyable and amusing in a silly-good way.

More accurate 'damme shame' 😂
