Data was truly annoying in this

Once he puts that silly emotion chip inside him, he becomes unbearable to watch. From his constant laughing and joking to being a whiner (and dont get me started on his lifeforms song number.....undeniably the films lowest point) it was just painful.

Although I will say his scene with picard in the big screen room was actually quite good. Have to give him the benefit of the doubt there.

The annoying Data with the microchip inside him was the only good thing to come out of this movie.

Among other things, yes.

Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director.

Call me silly but I found the Lifeforms song pretty funny. I liked how everyone on the bridged stopped what he was doing and stared in disbelief as Data sang the song.

Lifeforms
You tiny little lifeforms...

Don't get wrong, Brent Spiner can be a ham but Data wasn't that bad in this movie.

I thought he was really quite funny in this, When he pushed Dr Crusher off the boat, I laughed quite hard :o Harder then I should have

and the ten forward scene was also quite funny

When Data says "Yes!" after the Klingon ship is blown to hell, and when he says "Oh, *beep* I just about pissed myself.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested

It's one of the best parts of the movie and one of the parts non trek fans most relate to

Data - "When you said, the clown can stay, but the Ferengi in the gorilla suit has to go! AHAHAHAHAH HHEEEE"

Jordi - "That was seven years ago"

Data - "I know... I JUST got it, hahaha, VERY FUNNY!"

That was hilarious!!!

He was great, he was finally more human, we waited 7 years to see that happen. His song was funny as was him swearing.

reply

To each their own, but I think you didn't get the reason these scenes exist.

Lets put it this way, are you being a baby when you're a baby? Did you throw temper tantrums? How about when you were first faced with your own mortality? Did you not feel afraid at night? The constant laughing was due to his emotion chip overloading his positron brain, which Humans can also FEEL by too much emotion at once. The emotion chip isn't silly, it's a means to be human for Data. Data wasn't whining, he knew he wasn't working/operating to his optimal efficiency, which is a huge no-no for any android as it's apart of their existence to be all they can be.

I thought it was awesome. His eternal quest to be human gets granted.

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.

reply

Its not entirely granted to his wishes, as you find out when watching Insurrection.
There are still a lot of things he wishes to have experienced and he is also still struggling with the concept of having fun.
It takes a kid to teach him those things we take for granted.
