Why was The Shawshank Redemption stiffed at the Academy Awards?

It was Donald Trump's fault, he likes criminals but doesn't like wardens so he paid the Academy voters to stiff this movie.

Because it was up against Forrest Gump. The biggest movie of the decade. Otherwise it probably would have cleaned up.

Forrest Gump and this were good movies. Though I honestly would've given Morgan Freeman the Oscar over Tom Hanks.

To be fair, Forrest Gump was a good movie, but the Academy getting it wrong, that never happens, right? It's never a political or shallow choice with them.

Like everyone is saying, Forrest Gump was a monster at the box office and racking up rewards. If it didn't win, Pulp Fiction probably would have won Best Picture. Shawshank is one of those movies people realize how great it is years later. I think it is better than Forrest Gump, but I can see why they gave it to Gump. Forrest Gump is a really good movie as well. That year had the Best Picture nominees of any year ever in my opinion. You could have picked 4 out of the 5 movies as the winner and it would have been a good decision. I will say Tom Hanks deserved the Best Actor Oscar.
