Ever wonder what happened to Andy and Red after the movie ended? My industry insider found this story idea and partial script that was never converted into a movie:

Several of the inmates who became friends with Andy and Red would join them in Mexico, they would develop a drug and gun-running enterprise, get in cahoots with the Mexican government and after a few years Andy would be an unofficial, unpaid but wealthy advisor to the President of Mexico, essentially making all the important decisions and running things. Preliminary title - "The Shawshank Gang."

In fact, Andy committed suicide in his jail cell that night he borrowed the rope. The rest was Red's dream after he got beaten up by the captain next morning.

How otherwise would you explain how could the #1 movie on IMDB have such an unrealistic ending?

What happened after? They basically live quiet, unassuming lives in Mexico.
