Why did Alex lie about the ticket?

I don't understand what Alex hoped to gain by lying and saying that he bought Juliet's and ticket, and that they were going together. At this point he knew that Juliet betrayed him and David, and was going to take the money for herself and run.

Was it just to mess with David? He should have been interested in David (and Juliet) getting out of the flat as soon as possible, before they realized they were had.

That’s what it looked like to me.

It made her betrayal of him at the end even more appalling, and had me cheering on Alex while Juliet had a bitch-fit in the car 🍻

I thought it was because he wanted David to Forgive Juliet so that they would leave together with the case full of paper. Then Ewan could make his getaway with the real money.

That may be wrong though seeing as David was trying to leave without Juliet anyway, before he knew about the Rio ticket.
