The World Series scenes kind of ruined it.

This movie could've been so much better if they handled the final game scenes better. It was all there. They had Costas and Steinbrenner, plus Yankee Stadium to film in. Yet, for some reason Brooks wrote it like he had never seen a baseball game before.

First off, having Nebraska throw 81 strikes in his first start in the world series is just ridiculous. It would have worked alot better if he just had a complete game shutout or even gave up 1 or 2 runs. But 27 outs on 81 pitches? On top of that his last out was Ozzie Smith, meaning "The Wizard of Oz" was batting 9th in the order.

I love Albert Brooks, but if he just dialed back a bit and concentrated on putting a believable game on film it could have been one of the best game sequences in modern film. Instead his fantasy game caused the movie to feel cheap and unrealistic.

All true.

Even in the long history of movies and suspension of belief, the whole idea that Steve would start Game 1 of a World Series without ever having thrown a pitch in anything but a Mexican league is beyond ridiculous.
