A 3.9/10 Rating... Is America on crack???

I have seen The Next Karate Kid so many times and I absolutely love it. Hillary Swank is amazing and I especially love the praying mantis scene because you see a completely different side to the character and it is magical. I also love the end when she kicks that a$$hole's a$$ in the end!

I was really disappointed however, no I was actually very pissed, when I saw a 3.9 rating for this movie. I hear a lot of good critics here on IMDB, so then why the hell does this movie get such a bad rating? For those of you who gave this movie a bad rating, you all don't know what the hell you are talking about and only real critics should be allowed to rate on here. Screw you idiots!

It might have something to do with this movie being complete garbage, with Myagi being the only good thing about it.

Just sayin'.

So you can say everyone is on crack for not liking it, but I can't say it's garbage (which it is by the way)?

Interesting.

AMEN!!!!

Been seeing it on Encore lately and it's NOTHING short of annoying!!! Even the way she talks!!! Call it oversensetive, but just prenunciations of "Mr. Mee-yaww-gee" and "Ka-raww-tee" drives me up the effing wall!!!

She just struck me as an annoying, snotty little bitch, much like Daniel!!! But at least that character had some personality (at least in the first one).

This movie is good, I'm a huge fan of all the Karate Kid movies. I have absolutely no idea how this has a 3.9 rating.

I'm watching it for the first time in my life right now on demand, and I got to say, it is completely horrible! I think the 3.9 is actually a very generous rating. It should be rated -3.9. It has the pacing, filming style and acting of a life time movie. I don't even think Pat Morita is good in this, but it's not his fault. Bad directing, bad writing. I can't believe this movie was ever made. Maybe if I saw it growing up when I was a kid I would have liked it to? Probably not, I always chose good movies.

Since you're bringing up nostalgia, who better than the Nostalgia Critic to go back to something you have fond memories of and apply sarcastic wit and observational cynicism to it?

Although coming at the movie from a clearly biased and comedic approach, he does make a lot of great points about inconsistencies in the plot and motivations of the characters.

A lot of things such as Julie just happening to have learned Karate from her father who was taught by Miyagi is very trite and poorly constructed. This Karate Kid seems to take the story beyond the realm of plausability with the psychotic "school security" sergeant who in no way could've been actually employed at any school.

The series has already gone too far this fourth installment and Karate Kid should have ended after the first sequel,The Karate Kid Part II.

reply

Well, if Karate Kid III only managed 4.5, and that was watchable, 3.9 is fair for this, it's not as good as any of the Daniel Laruso instalments, it's tedious, badly written, cash-in crap.

I was 14 when this movie came out and I completely loved it. I randomly saw it on IMDB and I'm also totally surprised over the low rating. Could be that when you're a kid you see this movie in a different way, but it truly doesn't deserve 3.9.

Since when were only Americans allowed to vote on IMDB?

reply

Too many take this movie seriously!! It is a pleasant, sometimes totally preposterous, comedy. I liked Swank and Morita in this-- they connected well, the film is a lot of fun, and introduces Zen effectively to an audience otherwise not likely to ever know much about it. Casting Swank as the winsome tomboy was simply brilliant.
