I know this might be irrelevant but...
Bruce was married & seperated from his first wife when he met Laurie. He had two kids with the first wife. So it can probably be assumed he was paying child support.
Then he said he "owns" his house, plus he had the fishing cabin.
And apparantly he worked as an exterminator.
I wondered about this too! He seemed to be pretty well off financially. I could never quite tell what he did for a living, as they made the truck's sign vague. I figured he was an electrician or a plumber, based on his uniform. Electricians and especially plumbers can make very good money in some circumstances, plus maybe he had money from his family.

"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."
I thought the van said something about an exterminator. Maybe I am wrong though. Maybe he owned his own business?
