Disney is driving me crazy...will this never be available?

First of all, Disney's mania with releasing the classics on DVD and then putting them in the Disney "Vault" indefinitely is ridiculous. Why not just release all Disney movies on DVD and let them all be available all the time? Also, why have they discontinued The Jungle Book on DVD? I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but it seems very unfair and just foolish. Have they got something against this film? I have it on VHS, as does my boyfriend, both of which are, of course, nearly fifteen years old. $50 for a used "discontinued" copy of it is pretty outrageous...but I just may get desperate. I love this movie, always have, and it needs to be in my film library.

Yes, it also needs a blu-ray version. Its one of my favourite movies going up.

This movie never got the respect it deserved. I think it was too deep and tragic for the Disney crowd. Too many gruesome deaths at the end too.

I completely agree! I was shocked when I found out my husband had never seen this movie since he's a huge movie buff. I figured I'd go online and find a cheap copy on amazon or ebay. NOPE! Why?!?!? This is such a wonderful, beautiful movie and frankly I don't even care for the animated version. I grew up with this one and feel that the animated Jungle Book is just too cheesy to enjoy. This is a "real" story!

Can we start a petition to get it released on dvd or blu ray???

It was on DVD awhile ago .. I know as I got it at Toys R Us way back when. So you just have to get lucky and look on ebay and amazon in the DVD version and you should be able to get it for not too much. It wasn't rare really it just wasn't highly sought after is the thing. I also used to have it on VHS so you can always go that path to get it if you want. But like I said it wasn't really one of there more popular films so I guess no rush to put it on Blu Ray yet. I still think it will happen but who knows when. In the meantime check out the sites I mentioned as they show up at affordable prices every now and then.

This DVD is so hard to find. I remember when it was at Toys R Us. My mom let me get one DVD and it was down to this and Dinosaur. I picked Dinosaur (it took me so long) thinking I could always get TJB later. A while later they closed that Toys R Us, which had a better supply than the other and I haven't seen the DvD since, though I haven't looked for years.

Umm It's not hard to find at all people. I bought it today from Amazon.co.uk for £9, which is about $13.

I'm pretty sure you can get it sent over to the u.s at a fraction of the price amazon.com are selling it at.

I know what you mean though about the Disney "Vault", it's ridiculous. I've been after a copy of Beauty & the beast for years, costing around £80 over here in the u.k its insane.

I realy dont understand what the point of limited release of Disney DVD'S is or what it will achieve in the long run.

Disney Vault classics are re-released every 10 years or so. Example, the Beauty & the Beast DVD was released in 2000. I had one, but it was stolen :( But, I got another from Amazon. Also, when I bought the Snow White DVD a few months ago, if you watch the previews, Beauty & the Beast will be released on DVD & Blu-ray this spring I believe.

But the Jungle Book(1994) I saw on DVD a few years back at a Walmart, but I had to choose between it & Swing Kids(with Robert Sean Leonard & Christian Bale). It was hardly a fair choice, but choose I did & went with Swing Kids. I haven't seen the Jungle Book in any stores since. But online, you can find it.

I still have the original VHS release. Yall suck.

If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive.

Well, since TJB debuted in '94, then my guess is it won't be available again until 2014. I'm sure they had it out in 2004, with Disney's track record of having classic's out every ten years.

I have always been on the lookout in stores for this but still no luck.

However, you can rent it online at disneymoviesonline.go.com/ for $3.99 (for 48 hours). So, at least there is something for it from Disney. I was surprised they even have it available on there.
