favorite scene that made ya LOL

My all time fave scene in this film would have to be when their on there way to the opera and the car w/tess and doug is playing opera, but the car behind them is playing "shout" and there all jamming Too damn funny :)

I loved it after the kidnapping when someone tells Tess that Doug shot her abductor in the toe, and she said, "Oh, Doug. And after all that practice . . . " I thought that was a scream.

reply

Just after Doug suddenly shoots off Earl's toe, he gasps out in pain, "he didn't even count to five!"

When she falls asleep at the opera, he tried to pull her chair out of sight, but it hits something, jars her awake, as her hair piece falls over her eyes

Tess Carlisle: It's got no price at all.

Bob Hutcherson: Yes ma'am. Uh, Doug, this is Bobby in canned goods, are you anywhere near the manager? I need a price check on Lesieur baby peas, repeat, Lesieur baby peas.

Doug Chesnic: Lesieur baby peas.

Store Manager: They're on special today, two for .59.

Doug Chesnic: They're on special today, two for .59.

Bob Hutcherson: Uh, copy that, it's two for .59.

Tess Carlisle: But I only want one.

Bob Hutcherson: Uh, roger that, Doug, but she only wants one.

Doug Chesnic: How much for just one?

Store Manager: The same. It's a two for one thing.

Doug Chesnic: Uh, Bobby, it's a two for one thing so I suggest you go ahead and get both.

Bob Hutcherson: Uh, copy that Doug but I believe we've lost in interest in peas, repeat, lost interest in peas. Canned goods out.

Perfect! Spot on! Love love love the LeSeur baby peas scene!!?

reply

Perfect! This was my favorite too. "Copy that, Doug, but I believe we've lost interest in peas, repeat, lost interest in peas..."

I also love the moment just a minute later when Tess makes a big deal about someone smoking, the agents run off, and she just giggles to herself.

The entire scene at the grocery store is just really charming (I also love it when the manager's running through and telling everyone, "Don't know her! Don't know her!")

Just watched it again for hundredth time. my fav part is when the helicopter comes back and they kick all the big wigs off to make room for her secret service team. Just love the movie.

reply

Mine would have to be when the Secret Service detail are talking over the various fighting styles of all former First Ladies, trying to decide who would be the toughest in a fight with the other First Ladies.

Honestly, my favorite moment is in the first 5 minutes.

Doug is back and bringing up the breakfast tray.

His "BREAKFAST!" after the restrained pounding on the door, as opposed to the polite knock and "Breakfast" a few minutes previously always floors me....

Without a doubt the funniest scene is when (late at night) Doug is sitting is his car pouring coffee from his thermos when Tess knocks on the windows. Doug in total shock loses the thermos all over the car and himself. That you have to burst out laughing! Then practically chasing Tess down the street to talk, he asked her what she wanted to see him about. She replied to have some coffee with him, LOL!

When Doug talks to the president after Tess plays golf and the president is like, "I feel like a GD idiot having to call you about a GD flower!"

reply

All of the above and also the calls from the president.

I also liked the scene where they were discussing the imaginary bout between the former first ladies. And shortly after that scene when Tess went missing with her driver the first time and Doug had to report in to the local police. The police trying not to crack up as the Sherrif discusses it with Doug is very funny "you gonna tell me you LOST the First Lady?"

reply

Hee-hee, I forgot about that scene -hilarious! They have him on speaker phone with the entire staff listening & the police chief says something like "She's pretty slippery, isn't she?". Then Doug figures out he's on speaker phone. LMAO!

reply

The scene with spilled coffee is evidence of the great writing, acting, direction, ect.

It's just a simple gag, but put together with the depth of conflict and tension regarding her situation with the SS, Doug in particular, and then the bald-faced attempt by her son to exploit her political value for business interests leads into the sad viewing of her departed husband's video, finally settling upon that shot of Doug wiping his eyes at the funeral...

Finally we are finally treated to an understanding of what has her so attached to this particular agent, drawn into this state of quietly compassionate rapport, when the scene switches to the man quietly pouring a cup of coffee in his car when the gag just perfectly releases all that's been building 'til then.

Really appreciate it when drama and comedy are blended so wonderfully.

I love everything about this movie, but I really laugh out loud at both scenes where the President calls up Doug (once at the bar, and the second time while he was on the toilet) to chew him out. :)

reply

My favorite scene is also when the helicopter officer threw all the big wigs off. Doubtless the press had been called and were waiting at the landing sight.

Although near the end when the president calls her and she tells him he has to take care of Doug then hangs up on him is close second.
