What did Jenny die from?

We never learn what she died from. What did she die from?

reply

I was always sure it was AIDS.
Part of me was super uneasy with the idea that Forrest slept with her afterwards.
I am serious.
Seemed like something that should have gotten an explanation as it could have been cancer, but with her background, HIV/AIDS made sense.

She died of Hepatitis C. A lot of drug abusers who shared needles came down with it. It was an unknown disease until it was discovered in 1989. The child didn't have it.

It's not specified in the film, but in the sequel book "Gump & Co" the author mentions that Jenny dies from Hepatitis C as a former drug addict in the early 70s. Hepatitis C was an unknown disease until 1989. She says in the movie that the doctors do not know what the virus is and that they can do nothing about it.

Hep C

In the sequel, the author clarified that it was Hep C. It was relatively unknown at the time, and wouldn't have been passed down to her son.

Does Forrest Gump have a sequel? Which movie is the sequel?

reply

The original book did, but it was never adapted into a movie.

According to, the book I believe, Jenny died from Hepatitis C. Something drug users in the '70s contracted, but they couldn't identify at the time.

Hepatitis C, *NOT* AIDS.
