Did anybody cry at certain part of the movie?

Did this movie make you cry? If so, what parts? This might sound weird, but I cried when the father was giving his concert and nobody but his friends and family showed up. I so admired him for sticking to playing the music that he wanted to play and he didn't sell out. Of course, I cried when Alfre died. Troy was so strong after this happened. I love this movie, but I don't think that I can ever watch it again.

I know this got posted some time ago. But I watched it tonight on Dave +1 on virgin media. i seen the movie 5 times in the last 4 years. I'm a 25 year old male and i like to think that i'm...lets say.....bulletproof when it comes to emotions...had a girl, she ripped out my heart..long story...
Anyhoo, i haved been choked and i shed a few tears at this movie. Not many, if any movies do that to me. I guess after all what happened, the lil girl showed so much strength n courage. I thought the part where she beat the glue sniffin guy was well funny tho.
Just don't tell my friends I balled my eyes out. PLEASE!

I cried at two parts:

1. When Carolyn died. I had a few tears on that scene, but it wasn't as much as the 2nd example.

2. When Troy was leaving Aunt Song's house, Viola waves goodbye, while chasing the car. The song (Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye") had that entire scene make me ball out crying. Don't know why, though. I guess Spike Lee has that kind of magic on people. LOL

After Carolyn dies when troy is with her father she says it's good that she died because she was in a lot of pain and wouldn;t have to suffer anymore.

Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Me too!! I'm not sure if it's the scene or the fact that I miss Michael Jackson but it gets me now

Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy night

I loved this movie when it came out in '94 as a 10 year old, but saw it again recently on Netflix... Man! I saw this movie in a different light now that I'm an adult! I was like bawling when Clinton slowly walks up and sits next to Troy after the funeral. He reaches over and holds her hand! Oh, I'm getting emotional typing it!

reply

Bingo, that's it. Such a simple gesture, and it worked so much better than all the adults fussing over her.

reply

I nearly cried right after Troy's mother died, and she was singing "One Two Three, the devil's after me..."

This was one of Spike's best, IMO.

reply

There are alot of emotional parts, but the funeral scene when Clinton sits down next to Troy and holds her hand makes me loose it everytime.

Its been a minute since I seen this movie. I cried at the part when the mother pass away also. Then the very end when Troy became the mother of the house.

I'm such a sap when it comes to this movie. I get misty-eyed when:
1. Carolyn & Woody have the long argument about the checks
2. when she throws him out (which he deserved, messing up her ankle).

I cry when:
1. They play "Never Can Say Goodbye."
2. Carolyn dies, especially when Woody tells the kids and they start crying. Forgeddabouddit!
3. When Clinton holds Troy's hand after the funeral.
4. When they play "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" and "Ooh Child" (dammit, I'm crying now) - I totally lose it.
5. Troy hears Woody chasing a rat or something, and she thinks her parents are fighting and asks for her mom.
6. When Troy is fixing Joseph's hair at the end, and, as the above poster said, she becomes 'mom' of the house.

That part also disturbs me because she is only 10 years old, and I see only a sad future for her, for having to grow up so fast.

This is all very fresh in my mind because I saw it for the 4th time last night. It's a classic! I cannot believe its IMDb rating is inly 6.6! I give it a 9!

I watched this movie this morning I cried when...

the mom is sick in the hospital
then when caroyln carmichael passes away
then i cried when Troy brother went to hold his sister hand
then I cried at the part Troy run down the stairs saying "mommy, daddy stop fighting" and then go in the kitchen and its just her dad and she gets sick

reply

Yeah I cried when Troy was leaving Aunt Song's house and when they found out the mom had cancer, also during the funeral, very sad.

Didn't see this mentioned yet, and it is so minor compared to the other scenes, but I do kind of choke up a little when Clinton comes in after the recital and quavers that the Knicks won the World Championship. Owch.

I mean, he was just a kid. That had to have been so brutal... and the young actor nailed the delivery of that line. Actually, all the kids were amazing actors.
