Jay and Silent Bob aren't very funny in this

Is it just me or is Jay and Silent Bob not very funny in this? Jay just kinda rambles on about stuff without any punchlines and while Silent Bob's always silent, here, he doesn't even seem to be aware that there's someone standing next to him a lot of the time as he rarely reacts to what Jay is saying if at all.

I don't know, is it just me or are these two just not very funny in this movie?

It was the very first time they were introduced in screen, what do you expect? Besides smith was a first time filmmaker. It took him a few movies to make both of them well known funny characters.

Jay was like that in real life, Smith always said that Jay was the type of guy to go to a party and whip out his dick lol... Idk, time and place i think. The early to mid 90's just seemed like the right fit to unleash them on the world. I enjoy Jay... Smith, well, he's extremely good at writing realistic characters when he decides to. I live in the Northeast, that's just how it is up here

Jay is very funny in this movie.

"Sh*t my grandmother used to say, 'What's better,' [effin'] 'a good plate with nothin' on it' -- no wait, I [effed] up: 'What's a good plate with nothing on it?'"
"Meaning?"
"I dunno, she was senile and sh*t, she used to [effin'] piss herself all the time, and sh*t herself."

"He speaks some English, but he cannot speak it good like we do."

"I'm not dealin', man. What you talkin' about?"
"Hey, you got anything, man?"
"Yeah, what you want?"

"What's up, s*uts?"

"You're cute as hell.... I hate guys. I LOVE WOMEN!"

"Hey! You're not allowed to rent here anymore!"
"YEAH!"

reply

"Silent Bob you're a rude mother fcker you know that? But you're cute as hell. I'd like to go down on you, suck you, line up three other guys and make like a circus seal. EWW YOU FCKING FGGOT! I HATE GUYS, I LOVE WOMEN!"

i always laugh at Jay shouting 'YEAH!' when Randall tells the woman she cant rent there anymore. biggest laugh of the film for me.

Dante - "Are there any balls down there?"
Jay - "Bout the biggest pair you've ever seen Dingleberry."

I don't think that it was Jay who said that.

It was.

I loved them in this movie, they are almost dramatic and so real here, they bring a different vibe to this movie, partially because of this this movie is great and other Smith's movies are just good. Later they are just comical and over the top, which is good, but wouldn't fit here.

Jay has a few funny lines, but for the most part I agree with you. The movie is hilarious as a whole though.

Poorly Lived and Poorly Died, Poorly Buried and No One Cried

Jay was most certainly funny in this , but you could tell after looking back after seeing the other movies, that they were a lot less like scripted characters in this and a lot more like real life versions of themselves.
