If I had to make a list of all my favorite 1990s movies (not necessarily "good" movies, but ones that I personally enjoyed), it would be a pretty long list. But I know for sure that HOME ALONE, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE DOORS, THE FUGITIVE, MRS. DOUBTFIRE, ED WOOD, THE MASK, THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, and DEEP IMPACT would all make the list - and I suppose THE CHASE would be somewhere on that list as well, although not quite near the very top.

One reason for it not being at the very top is that I've never been completely comfortable with how it played out and especially how it ended. As much as I enjoy the movie, I take it as a naughty wish-fulfillment fantasy and hope that everyone else does likewise, because it encourages antisocial behavior in just about everyone.

Boys: Be a hot-tempered bully like Jack Hammond. Girls will find that sexy.

Girls: Be a lawless brat like Natalie Voss, and you'll end up happier than you could ever have dreamed.

If you think about it, the only truly sympathetic character in this movie is that cop played by Josh Mostel (whose character's name I forget right now), and what happens to him? He gets taken hostage!

Actually she was attracted to him because of how he understood her, stood up to her bullying father, and was ultimately innocent.

He was attracted to her because she wasn’t a brat after all, believed in him, and was obscenely hot.

The negative traits you mentioned were only superficial and it was when they got to know each other on a deeper level that the sparks flew, and that’s a good message.
