shareI am an American living in Canada. All my Canadian friends love it. I loved it too.
War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!
Yeah i loved it too. I loved the dysfunction. I also loved that scene with Dan Akroyed were he asked them to write in french and english on the truck. LOL
sharelol, I'm Canadian and I thought this movie was great. When you think about it though, makes fun of America a fair amount too, so I wouldn't be surprised if some Americans got offended.
shareI also like that segment on the news when they talk about Canada's Evil oozing over the US like Maple Syrup and when they said imagin your children pledging allegiance to the Maple Leaf. LOL! Also when John Candy gets into a fight in a Canadian Hockey Rink for saying that Canadian Beer Sucked and when he looks at the Canadian Flag and says "What is that, a Weed!?" LOL!
The great thing about being a Canadian is I at least find it impossible to be offended. All the things Americans and others make fun of us for (eh!, beavers, maple syrup, hockey, snow etc) is a source of pride in a backhanded way. Let me explain.
Americans (mostly) see poking fun at the aformentioned things in an insulting way (huh huh, our little Canadian buddies up there), yet as we laugh along with them they are actually making themselves look even more like the dumb American stereotypes they are slapped with internationally. When they say 'how's the igloo' all I think off is 'dumb, uninlightened southern redneck' and think of the beautiful north which I love so much.
Just a funny thing I find, and is a reason I find Canadian Bacon so funny; it seems like Micheal Moore gets this fully.
think i'll go have a strong canadian beer
Climb the mountain of conflict!? Who does he think he is, a Nazi Julie Andrews?!

I'm absolutely positive that no "Candians" were offended by this production
the movie makes fun of america, not canada. and candians is a made up word
... and candians is a made up wordMy first impression was that Candians are from Candyland. Sweet! Candyland--maybe that's where John is now!
... and candians is a made up word
Canada's an easy target, granted. But as a Canadian, I've never been offended by how we've been portrayed in movies. I like maple syrup on my pancakes, I love hockey, and I'm polite to others (most of the time). And when I see Americans make fun of Canadians, I decide to go to the doctor's because my tummy hurts, free of charge.
shareAnyway, I don't have any thing against Canadians BTW. I'm just wondering because all the characters are all off beat and zany against Canada that I was wondering if some people thought if it went too far at times because it's a comedy were the main subject of being lampooned is Canada(Or maybe America). This movie almost reminds of how the characters are like in the Simpsons with all the dysfunctional antics and zany people and stuff.
shareI think it's funny that John Candy is Canadian.

Not offended at all :)
shareNope. I love this movie! :)
Ellery Queen (Jim Hutton) = sexiest man ever!
Why would they be? The movie isn't critical of Canada, but America.
Canadian Bacon - 7/10
Beneath the Planet of the Apes - 7/10

There's nothing to be offended about ... it's just simple fun with Canadian stereotypes. Most of us have a sense of humor ... I'm a francophone and the scene with the french text on the truck was hilarious.
Besides, this movie makes a lot more fun of the gun loving and warmongering Americans.

I think that's the genius of the movie. People of either country seem to think the other country got hit harder. That *beep* is hard to do.
