Re-watching season 7 I realize what I didn't fully realize the first time: It definitely jumped the shark. All the new characters are more or less dull and the plot lines are uninteresting. It's as if all the makers are phoning it in and aren't really interested in the show anymore. Then you have Anita disappearing and appearing after a few episodes. Then I remember the old seasons and how wonderful they were and it makes the difference all the more painful.
shareI didn't like S6 or S7. The show was amazing until they changed school. But having that many episodes had to effect the show, any show. Nick and Jodie, Sam and Rivers, Anita and Drazic were epic couples.
Every SL with Nick's family was great even after his death. I liked Katarina's character development. I never cared for all those new characters, which is why I didn't watch the show until the end. I skipped episodes, just wanted to see Anita and Draz and Ryan.
I agree that the old eps are epic. It peaked in season three with Matt, Jodie, Allie, Rivers, Sam, Con and Danielle. After Rivers' departure, Bolton took over and did a great job.
I understand why the writers replaced characters so quickly. They wanted to keep the show fresh but I wonder why Miss Milano and Chaka had to go after a few eps. I think in the long run, they changed too many characters with some of them making it barely past one season like Stassy or Gemma who for some reason got kicked out mid-season 7.
I'm at episode 200 right now and it's the second time I watched the show from ep. 1 through 210. I can't wait to get back to ep. 1 which is always odd to see the old characters around. The old eps also feel grittier than the later ones and they were filmed during the grunge era which conjures some fond memories in me.
Although the original cast was the best I did enjoy the seasons or storylines featuring Drazic, Anita, Ryan, Sarah etc.
For me, it became hard to watch with characters such as Gem, Marco, Tania, Tess, Zac - none of them were particularly remarkable as character

I don't think it keeps a show fresh when characters change so often. Many people that grew to like the old characters might get uninterested with new people in new seasons. I noticed that in other series too.
