show would be better today

I think they should bring this show back because there seems to be much crappier movies out these days that the Critic could make fun of. High School Musicals? Fast and Furious1-4? All those stupid Epic Movie, Disaster Movie crap? I think the show will work? Who's with me?

People weren't ready then. The Simpsons were the standard, and everything animated failed to find a strong audience. South Park was the first one who did.

Fox should have a second animation night with Futurama, The Critic, and The PJs.

FOX also had to pay for licensing, and they prefer owning shows outright to keep costs down. That's also one reason why "Doctor Who" never got picked up...

The trouble with making fun of current movies is nearly all current movies are sequels. How many times can you make fun of the same movie with a different roman numeral?

reply

Theres also the hilarious fact of this. Several of the movies "parodied" in the Critic actually exist now such as Jurassic Park 2, we're up to Home Alone 4 so only one more before we get to the first parody ever shown in the show.

I would love it if the show came back though. I wonder why season 3 never got off the ground. They wrote scripts and had a network willing to do it. What happened?

I believe that FOX and UPN could not come on an agreement.

It might be possible that The Critic might better today

I would love to see another TV series for the Critic. I would diffenetly watch it no matter what movies are being parodied.

reply

I would also watch The Critc if was brought back from the dead.

reply

I would watch it no matter what. There are a bunch of movies they can spoof and TV shows.

what are you ppl talking about?

it didn't catch on back then with any age group i was probably 11 and it didn't catch on with the teen siblings 14 & 17 and friends in their age group. i remember older brothers friends 18 and such that said it sucked. and now I'm an adult and they have been airing it late nite on comedy network for sometime now and I can't stand it now, almost 15 years later. couldn't get into it watching. i thought i could for nostalgic purposes to re-live but impossible. show sucked, thats why it flopped. even being older i understand everything about all the puns and such it was trying to make.

show sucked, thats why it never caught on. there is no fan base that cares about 'the critic' i'm surprised it even made it to DVD. probably cost them more to port it to DVD then the user base who bought this? 23 episodes only? common. dust on my shelf. unless the boxset was for $4.99 or something, lol.

You couldn't be more wrong about that, buddy. I think this board speaks for itself.

"Nicegal" huh? Lol. The show had/has a fanbase even if it isn't anyone in your circle. Plenty of respected shows have been axed prematurely.

I guess the show was ahead of its time. There are many movies today that would be ripe for parody. Such as Twilight, High School Musical, Hannah Montana and countless others.

No matter what show exist there are always be some that say the show sucks.

Mike Reiss says, The Critic failed and it failed big.

That might be because TV networks ordered new episodes of Sony Picture Television.

That is why bringing back new episodes of The Critic in syndication will perfect for the ratings.

New episodes of The Critic can be made in syndication if any person or people decided to pay Sony Pictures Television money to produce new The Critic episodes or if Sony Pictures Television were to produce new episodes of The Critic.

Another tv station ordering new episodes of The Critic would not be a good thing for ratings of The Critic.
