Who was the guy they chucked into the sea?

They had the kidnapped guy, with the Chinese navy boat bearing down on them near the end, and they lashed their hostage to an anchor and chucked him overboard. So how does he walk out of a Chinese army jeep in the very next scene? Did I miss something?

Weird, in one version of the movie they drown him, in another - he lives. You saw some mixed together version!
