i really do believe this is leonardo dicaprio's best performance who agrees

It's amazing. as an actor I study many performances and use observsation as a key learning method. Although its unlikely i'll ever play a character like Leo's, it's still fantastic and makes me wonder how he pulled it off at such a young age. By the way, how old was he for this movie?

reply

He was born in '74 so he was 18 when making the film. A superb performance, I agree.

reply

yeah i do things like that too i am 13 and i want to be an actress and i take it seriously and loads of people think it is stupid but i wouldnt say that

reply

i think this movie is amazing! DiCaprio did an amazing job.

Overall, I'm not a big DiCaprio fan, but he nailed this. Just saw it again last night, and wow!

reply

imo id have to say this his second best performance. to anyone that has seen the basketball diaries thats his best performace.

reply

yes i totally agree, even now when he gets nominated 4 an oscar i actually don't want him 2 win coz he didnt win for Arnie, it's just wrong

im not a huge fan of his
but ths is my favoret role that he has ever played

reply

i completely agree with you. before i saw this, i though he was a good actor, based on the few of his films ive seen (inc. titanic, the beach). but this performance was amazing. the role could be seen as quite risky for an actor, i guess, but he played arnie brilliantly!

reply

I agree with Sploosh, I am not a fan of Leo's at all. He was incredible in this movie though. I haven't seen Basketball Diaries, but I find it hard to believe that he could top this performance.

sorry to burst your acting student bubbles but being a great actor doesn't make you a genius, it makes you talented and charismatic, geniuses change the world with ideas, not by playing dress-up and pretend

Now shut up.

reply

^5 to you sir.

There are actors and actresses who in their rolls as characters, have changed the minds, hearts, and thoughts of millions. So... I'm pretty sure that = genius. [that's to the troll above you sohamorrohit]

I personally think it's a tie between this one and his performance in Th Aviator. He was also fantastic in This Boy's Life, Basketball Diaries, Catch Me If You Can, Blood Diamond and Revolutionary Road. He deserved Oscar nominations for all those performances (and got one for Blood Diamond).

I never was too impressed with younger Leo DiCaprio performances... until I saw this movie. Truly great acting on his part, as well as Depp's. This strongly reminded me of a movie River Phoenix would've done, if he were still alive at the time.

His second best performance of 93, This Boy's Life was better.

yep I still think this is his best performance to date. The first time I saw the film I was 13 and thought, WHO is this guy? I genuinely thought they had cast a real person who was handicapped (He was an unknown back then.) It's such an impressive performance, and a great film as a whole.

reply

Leo Was Absolutely amazing in this. I do agree and think this is one of his best performances, he plays the character so well. Such a talented Actor he is(:

reply

I'm with the rest!!

This movie highlights what a great actor he is, given the right opportunity.

AND he's a pretty face too.

reply

The first movie I saw DiCaprio in was Titanic. Since then I have disliked him. But this movie (which I just saw) changed my opinion about him as an actor. I think both Depp and him did an amazing job.

Only watched this film last night but I immediately fell for it! The cast is brilliant but Di Caprio steals the show...

Can't believe he didn't win an award, though two nominations is very good going.

reply

I gave this film a 6 as I thought I wasn't enthralled by the story itself and its predictability, but Leo's performance - wow!

I've never been a huge fan of his, I always that he was a serviceable actor but tended to think he was slightly overrated. This movie made me look at him in a new light. Really an amazing performance.

reply

I completely agree. It's not my favorite movie that he's in, but it's my second favorite. I'm honestly surprised that he didn't get an academy award for it.

Not only Leo's best performances, one of the best performances ever given. I have a family member who is mentally ill. Leo was astoundingly accurate. It was enormously moving to see such a respectful, human performance. I don't usually see movies that include mentally ill characters b/c many tend to patronize and dehumanize their existence.

You mean learning disabilities. Di caprios character didnt have a personality disorder
