Tarantino should be ashamed.

I know it's never popular to speak negatively about a movie on here, but my god, after watching every other one of Tarantino's films (up to Django) and loving them, this one was pitiful.

Patricia Arquette (who plays Alabama) is just about the worst actress I have ever seen in my life. How she managed to continue her acting career after this movie is beyond me.

Anyway, the script itself is pretty good, and the rest of the cast (aside from Arquette) is outstanding. But it's really very obvious that Tarantino did not direct this film himself, because there is no way he would have let it turn out this bad.

The characters seem as if they would have been really deep and complex, but it's as if Tony Scott came and stomped on all of them to flatten them out to make it more palatable for general audiences. There's no mystery behind the characters, no intrigue.

But dammit, I kept rooting for Alabama to get killed in any one of those shoot outs because then I wouldn't have to listen to Arquette's horrible voice anymore.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

I absolutely loved the film and all the characters/actors/actresses in it.

Sorry you hated it.

reply

I actually think it is better than Reservoir Dogs.

reply

You got alotta anger in ya, kid.

reply

No, you should be ashamed

reply

I thought Patricia did good in here. All of the actors did a great job.

This was a great film from start to finish. Arquette did a great job. To me, this was her best role ever.

The scene with her and James G was one of the best scenes period.

The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken was one of the best scenes in any movie ever.

Arquette sucks.

reply

Arquette is awesome in it.

8.5 out of 10.

this isn't fully a tarantino movie bc it wasn't directed by him. tony scott (who recently killed himself) directed it, and borrowed ALOT from the Terrence Malick's first full length movie Badlands. similar voiceovers and music.

reply

Maybe it's IS influenced by Badlands, but that movie was a total bore.

reply

You took the words out of my mouth. Tarantino just wrote it but didn't direct it. A lot of people don't realize, directors can make or break a film. I still like this movie, but I think it would have been better if Tarantino directed it. Brad Pitt is hilarious though!

reply

I think the OP's point was that Tarantino should be ashamed of how his script was butchered because of his lack of involvement. Ashamed seemed like a misleading word to use though.

8.5 out of 10.

You need a 1-20 scale to rate from? Just say 17 out of 20.

Nah scale of 1-10 is better.

Tarantino himself said that he was happy with how Tony Scott handled and interpreted his screenplay. He said it was almost exactly how he would have done it, it's just that Tarantino's version was naturally non-linear, flashing back and forth in the place of Scott's chronological take.

reply

Tarantino said he liked Scott's version but the ending and overall tone was very different to Tarantino's original idea.

Scott filmed Tarantino's original ending to use as a DVD extra, seek it out and listen to Tarantino's commentary, if you haven't already.

I love Tony Scott's version, I really can't imagine Tarantino could have made a better film than he did.

Would love to see Tarantino re-do Natural Born Killers though.....

I agree and I wouldn't mind him doing that either.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you have yours. One thing - I don't know what you are talking about when you say Tarantino characters have depth and complexity. That just isn't true.

If I have one issue with Tarantino, it is that he seems to make the same revenge flick with over-the-top violence. And makes sense you would like them all, because they are all quite similar.

I thought that True Romance was great and have no complaints about it. But with that said why would you blame Tarantino for casting decisions for TR when he clearly had no say in such decisions?
