Worst western ever?

I cant believe that people think this movie is good. I came to this board expecting to read about how bad it was and how terrible kurt russels performance was but no, i find a bunch of love for this turd of a movie??
I like kurt in some other films but his delivery of lines is just laughable in this from the get go right until the end.You could be forgiven for mistaking this movie as a comedy spoof based on his acting in tombstone. No problems with the other actors and Kilmer was pretty good.

Compare this to a great western film like 'The good, bad and ugly' and this gets about 1/10. I could watch GBU over and over yet can barely make to the end of this movie. So whats the deal?

reply

The deal is that people like different things. For example, a lot of the stuff the Dumbest Generation likes, I have no use for.

reply

You honestly believe that Good, the Bad, and the Ugly makes this a 1 out of 10? I can believe that you don't like the movie, but I don't believe that you honestly came here expecting to hear everyone else already talking about how terrible it is. That is a trolling line if I ever heard one.

Here's an expression I once heard, you might find it applicable: "If you have a problem with someone, then maybe they have a problem. But if you have a problem with everyone, then maybe you have a problem." I wouldn't want to rely solely on appeal to popular opinion, but I really don't think you're the one bright light that sees what everyone else is missing, and to such an egregious degree that it's confusing to you.

I'm curious to know, though, do you find Wyatt Earp to generally be a positive figure of the west, or a tyrant of the west?

Great Reply to the idiotic OP. IMO this is the best western ever made. Kurt Russell IMO does a great job and of course Val Kilmer's performance is legendary. The story is so compelling.

reply

You joined IMDB just to say this? You're right - terrible, awful movie and everyone agrees with you and... no, wait. They don't. Last I looked, it gets a 7.8 rating here.

Thank you for sharing, though. You may go now.

(BTW, guys, this is Chloe1251. Don't know what happened to my ID!)

reply

It's funny because I half expected the next comment on this to be from you or Bobbi, and when I saw "Cathaven97" I wondered if we had a new player on the board. But yeah, I seriously don't know what this guy is thinking.

"Oh, good,...we've got a mexican."

reply

It's interesting how everyone who comes here to bitch because they hate this never have anything to say but e.g, "This sux," or "This movie is stoopid" and can never articulate why. But actually, one person did complain that the movie is "racist" obviously not knowing that in the 1800's, political correctness had not yet been invented. Duh.

reply

Totally, I can get that some people just dont like something, but its a very tough case to prove, saying this movie is not quality. And for the racist comment, just ignorant people. Especially since the movie did do a good job of subtely touching on the issues of the day with the nod to womens sufferage, which was in early stages at that time.

Sorry I'm late, but I don't usually respond to trolls like alexmcphersen!

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

reply

I haven't posted here in forever, but after reading this thread, I was waiting for Dave to jump in with both feet.

When I checked, he hasn't posted in almost a year. Is Dave ok or has he changed screen names too?

Regarding this OP: IMHO, it's a hit and run troll. Makes an outrageous post waiting to see the s#!t storm he stirred up, never to post again.

reply

Thats a good point. I dont usually expect trolls on this board like I would on others, but you're certainly right that they do come, especially hit and run style.

I wouldn't mind a troll now and then, if only they weren't all so boring and dull, like this one.

Dave hasn't been here in a year? Dave, if you read this please let us know you're okay.

I think you're referring to a recent phenomenon, called a "cuck" for which there is no historical precedent.

Me either. I'm dazed and confused. I better not say anything else in case one them stumbles onto this forum by accident and gets his wittle feelings hurt at the social injustice.

Funny stuff.

You probably think blazing saddles is a drama

reply

Dude, totally agree, I love Kurt Russell but he can't play Earp. And Sam Elliot was like in his 60s playing Virgil. And all those bad guys having very witty and snappy lines was just too much for me.

reply

Agree - every actor in it was a scene-stealing upstager who appeared to be acting for himself only, and relating to the others as if they were his "props". It was a movie of individuals, instead of being a cohesive whole....with everyone seeming as though they thought the whole thing revolved around them individually. And don't even get me started on how totally miscast Dana Delaney was.

reply

at least you presented reasons you don't like the film.
