Constance Bonacieux

Ok, I know it's difficult to fit everything into an hour and a half, but couldn't they have simply dropped the character of Constance? Julie Delpy has, in all, less than a minute of screen time I reckon - and, in that time, we're supposed to believe she and d'Artagnan are a love-at-first-sight item?

d'Artagnan doesn't seem to look twice and he certainly doesn't seem to think of her when either reciting bad poetry to the tavern wench or wilfully being seduced by M'Lady.

But in a film featuring a kung-fu henchman in 17th Century France and a huge, hideous monster of a jailer who turns up from nowhere, I guess we can turn a blind eye...rather like 'captain' Rochefort. Very strange all round though.

What's even more strange is that there are six pages worth of discussions on here and not one mention of how delectable Rebecca De Mornay looks througout this film!

Yeah, that was easily the most undercooked aspect of the entire film (and that's saying something). There's no payoff because there's no set up. They have a meet cute and then don't see each other again until the end.

I agree. Maybe there was a deleted scene or something which showed some more development in their relationship, but the way it is now she's completely pointless.
