shareThis is a great war film. It doesn't quite beat out Peckinpah's "Cross of Iron" for the top Eastern Front movie, but it is a very solid second.
shareI'm watching this tonight after you mentioned it, stranger. I guess you're right, it's the better movie, the characters are much better defined, and the concussion sequence was very well done too. Probably can't finish it tonight for a final verdict but so far it's been great.

Yes, even though Stalingrad is an authentic German production with an all-German cast, Peckinpah tops it. If you like the Eastern Front I also recommend the German miniseries "Generation War" although it is quite hard to f ind. It's not dubbed but there are English subs. There are also literally TONS of Russian WW2 films and a lot of them are on Youtube. White Tiger, T-34, and many more. Here's a list

An Eastern Front film in a more light-hearted vein is "The Misfit Brigade" which is a kind of whimsical, low-budget adaption of the brutal war novels of Sven Hassel.
