Good movie

This is a good movie! I don't say outstanding but it's really good. Kim Basinger's performance is awesome! I just wonder why are so few posts here. Maybe the distribution of the movie wasn not wide enough. The Real McCoy is fun to watch and I loved to see Kim doing the bank robberies.

no it was wide...i fully remember it opening up and seeing plenty of ads for it on tv...i don't know its one of those movies that for whatever reason didn't click either with audiences or with the critics and generally got poor word of mouth on it...i've come across it on tv a handful of times and it always starts off good then somewhere round the middle i always end up losing interest...i don't know why exactly but i know i've seen the beginning a couple of times now...it looks all right enough...val kilmer seems as nutty/goofy in here as he does in most of the stuff he does! (kiss kiss bang bang was perhaps one of the most underrated movies of last year.)

well i guess its just one of those movies that doesn't inspire incredible fandom though i must say it seems to be well done...the heist sequence the opens it is nice and tight...why did i end up losing interest and switiching the channel again? i guess i'll have to try and see it again at some point now to find out!

I've always thought that this was a pretty good movie, the bank robbery was excellent as far as the plan...overall its a cool, not great, but enjoyable film. It has some cheesy stuff, though it deserves a higher rating, cause to be honest I enjoy watching this movie way more than mystic river or titanic.

Except that Kim kept her clothes on. Had she shown a little more skin, it would have done better. Had there been some sexual tension (as in 9 1/2 weeks) it would have kept the audience's attention.

and thats really sad, that this society likes movies more because of sexual things. wow. i liked this movie alot.

yea it wasnt outstanding, but it was good. i loved kim and vals performances.

Ponyboy curtis and teddy duchamp are pretty much my heros.

reply

Yes, I agree tduchampsgirl. Its sad that films need to show skin to grab the moviegoer's attention. Show's you how badly our society has degenerated.
One wonders what it'll be like in 10 years.

PS-Val is alway's amazing.

yea...i love real genius, no matter what.

Yes, how dare these poeple want to see her naked. THis movie was mediocre, and she should have taken it off.

Good thing there's 9.5 weeks, which I'm sure you puritans missed.

since we live ten years after the movie we know the answer.
Movies are now made pg 12 or pg 13.
that Means all movies are now suitable for chrildren which mean no nudity - no cursing - no hardcore action.
it shows how bad movies got all movies are plain chrildrens movie today - trying to get people in Theaters with farytales for chrildren with cgi.
your wish is granted.

This movie is based on a Desmond Lowden novel. There is a British miniseries
called Bellman and True made in 1987 based on the same novel.
I did see the mini series first and think The Real McCoy was a joke next to it.

reply

Interesting ! Did not know that.
I quite like 'The Real Mc Coy' for the bankjob side of it.
A good example is also 'The Guilty', which I saw as a (BBC) mini series on TV in the early '90s. When - eventually - the US version came out with Bill Pullman
I was very, very dissapointed with the movie. It was extremely poor compared to its British equivalent. There's been a fair bit of good Hollywood stuff around, but I can readily think of Many British made movies or mini series that were far superior. For example, the hard to find 'Who pays the ferryman?' comes to mind as an example. Or the excellent 'Juggernaut' (Richard Harris) - all vastly underrated gems if you ask me....

vaheshant-1 - it hasn't been 10 years - but are we there yet?
- I will try McCoy tonight based on the disappointment of the dweebs in here who say there is no skin...

by the way:
in addition to showing lotsa skin, Hollywood has--more or less--mandatory retirement for actresses at age 40 (unless you are Meryl Streep).. so, you need to be a new face, skinny and under 30, AND show skin (or do some deep breathing) to get a role... even then, you are a tossaway commodity for the suits in LA..

and for the gleeb who calls us 'Puritans': Shakespeare has been around for 4 centuries, and there's no skin.. 95% of Hollywood movies made in the last 20 years are forgotten after 4 years.. skin or not..

how about this Content Advisory for a 2009 PG family film about a dog?

There are two scenes where the couple start having sex; one in a hotel room, but nothing is shown in either. In the latter scene, as the camera tilts up to the ceiling, rhythmically squeaking bed springs are heard.

The main character and his boss discuss his attempt to get his wife pregnant. Sexual innuendos are passed back and forth in this scene, including the part where the boss asks if he "pulled the goalie", meaning he has stopped using condoms/birth control while having sex.

Jenny calls John and says, "There's a naked woman in your bed," referring to herself. His reply is, "Oh great. Well, why don't the two of you get started, and I'll be there shortly."

There is a scene where the wife, with her back to the camera, takes off her dress and jumps into the pool. (You can almost see the side of her breasts, although nothing is actually shown.)

-recognize it? Marley and Me - Jenn Anniston tries to reboot her career by showing skin.. a fast-moving film: it was all the way to video in 2 months.. Jenn's birth year? 1969 - do the math.. sorry, Jenn: you are another tossaway, just like Kim Basinger in this film (only she was born in 1953 - yikes!)

I agree it is a good movie 8/10 I Wonder why movies with no CGI and a great plot gets so low score.
I think this is better than many movies today.

Fun thread.

I really enjoyed it as well. This was one time when Kim Basinger showed she could take the lead and carry a movie.
