I've read the book too and I have to say that I don't think there is need for another Orlando either, Tilda was brilliant as Orlando, both aesthetically and the way she actually portrayed the character.
However, if there was need for another Orlando, Cate Blanchett would have my bet ;) Even though I have really liked some of Johansson’s performances I just don't think she could do justice to Orlando, in terms of subtlety, I thought Tilda was great at portraying that.

Hmmm. Blanchett is a pretty good call.
Though, I can still see Swinton do it even now. The woman is so intelligent and talented that age cannot touch her.

Brother, you can believe in stones, as long as you don't throw them at me.

although i love her as an actress, orlando needs an ambiguity in her sexuality which scarlett johansson completely lacks. tilda was perfect. johansson is also too sexy i find.

reply

Judging from the looks only, I think, too, that Johansson would work out very well, both as a boy and a woman.

Are you all on hard drugs?

Some people 'get it'. It's that thing that can't be taught or learned. You either 'get it' or you don't 'get it'.

Johansson doesn't get it. She looks nice and all that, but it's not enough.

One word: No.

reply

Precisely. Well said.

too bad of an actress rather...

reply

No...there can never be another Orlando. Tilda Swinton is Orlando! She just captured the film and made it hers. I'm sorry, I'm not a fan of Scarlett and even if I was I would still say no. This movie should never be remade...it's beautiful just the way it is.

Wait..give me a chance to mess it up.

My thoughts exactly, Egyptian_Monk!

"Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up...we'll all get up...IT'LL BE ANARCHY!!"

reply

I'm sorry, but I just can't see it.

Besides, it would be better to give this version its due. Making it a cult classic may seen distasteful to some, but why not do that before 'remaking' it.

I love Scarlett, but she's dreadfully wrong for Orlando. Too short, for one thing. Way too curvaceous. Too clearly feminine looking. Orlando is androgynous and looks the same, facially, as male and female. Tilda fit all the criteria necessary. It's just too bad the movie was mediocre as an adaptation. But Tilda's performance, given the material she had to work with, was spot on.

Orlando is supposed to be androgynous. Scarlett is many things, but....

that's the worst idea i've heard in a long long time.
