This is crap when watched older.

I first watched Ninja Scroll when I was 14 years old and thought it was amazing. I tried watching it now (I'm 23) and found it to be total crap and boring. I found the action scenes lackluster. I also feel the same about Street Fighter 2 The Animated Movie. I bought Spriggan and found that crap as well. I think I'm too old for anime now, it's something for 12-18 year olds. I wanted to get Cyber City Oedo as it's something I enjoyed as a 12 year old but I'll probably end up hating that as well.

Does anyone else feel the same? Are there any good action animes that can revve my interest?

go watch berserk! nothing beats that anime! it might be the best ever!

totally agree with you. I bought the DVD like a month ago. I watched the movie when i was like 14, now im 21. Now that i recently watched it, i dont find it that hardcore anymore, even in 5.1. Not only was it this movie, but also SF2 and SFA. I never was into sci-fi and futuristic stuff. Man i hate getting old :S

Ninja scroll is ageless, Jubei is one of the all time toughest dudes around, I mean seriously he gets the *beep* kicked outta him by tassei and all he does is pull out a tooth? goddamn!

I agree with the post that said princess mononoke is overated. It really is. It's a slow story with an environmental message that takes too damn long to get anywhere. Now Howl's moving castle is downright brilliant. I watched that twice right after another.

Also call me crazy but i prefer the english dub alot of the time. I get tired of reading subtitles though i do find it funny how entire important bits of plot may be left out because they have to sync the words with the lips.

Beserk was good, Spriggan is good, Samurai 7 was pretty slow until the end then it became my favourite mini series. Ghost in the shell is also good (movie and series). I could go on but hell i'm an anime fan until i die, i get the biggest kick outta out of it.

Finally, i love cyber city but i have to say i was dissapointed with the aussie dvd release. The english voices are the same but the soundtrack isn't the same as the western release, which means the grinding guitar tunes are absent, which makes it much less watchable.

SF2 the animated movie is my favourite anime though. I can't help getting into a quote off with my friend

"You get the hell out of my way!"

"well well aren't we the big he man! you musn't be too concerned about your friend who must be dead by now!"

Classic.

That's my 5 cents.

The only anime movies i can watch in english is the studio ghibli films beacuse western companys actually takes time to dub them good. Even then, i dont see the point. The acting on most dubs are so bad it takes you right out of the movie. It never flows in the same way. But hey if you prefer it good for you man.

I watched Ninja Scroll for the first time almost 13 years ago.
I've seen it countless times since it was first released in the US.
I just watched it again last night with my wife.
I'm not "blown away" like I was back then but it's still one of my all-time favorites. My wife loves it (she chose to watch it) and usually uses it to compare quality/atmosphere to other animes.

It was inspired by Futaro Yamada's "Ninpocho" series (most notably The Kouga Ninja Scrolls and Makai Tensho).
I've enjoyed many other works that draw from the same books (anime and live action - many aren't as well done or as enjoyable - and a few are better).

here are some off the top of my head:
-Ninja Wars
-Reborn From Hell 1 & 2
-Basilisk
-Shinobi: Heart Under Blade
-Samurai Reincarnation
-Ninja Resurrection

Ninja Scroll didn't get old. You guys did.

It's a common feeling anyways. Why I'm not impressed by Super Mario Bros. for the NES as when I was 7 years old?

Ninja Scroll just doesn't do anything special for me anymore either. I can still watch Samurai X Trust & Betrayal (Director's Cut) and still be entirely entertained.

Well, if all you people being disappointed at anime saw was action , bad language, and blood and gore, then you never really LIKED anime, only those elements. Anime is much more than that, and I guess you never really got it, that's why you got disappointed after watching the same movies several years later.

I first saw Ninja Scroll when I was 18, I'm 20 now, and although I'm only two years older, I've grown up a LOT. But I still LOVE this film.

There's no such thing as getting too old for anime in general. What does happen when you get older is that you get a more refined taste. When you're very young you're just not very picky. The reason you no longer like Ninja Scroll is, frankly, because it's crap. There's a lot of good anime out there still, try watching something like Death Note or Spirited Away.

Explain how it's crap or GTFO. :)

Uninteresting characters that are as two-dimensional as a sheet of paper and completely devoid of plot. It's strange that you can simply put in blood and nudity and actually get away with making something this poor.

If you're trying to say the movie crap when you're old because it's a kids movie, I don't buy it. While extremely simple plots and one-dimensional characters is common in media directed at kids, massive gore and nudity is anything but.

I agree with your comments gogo_444_444.

I'm 25 and I still try and watch Ninja Scroll once a year.

The animation is fantastic, story, characters, dialog, action, atmosphere. I really can't fault it for anything. Far superior to the lacking Ninja Scroll 2 IMHO.

Same dude. Growing up has a tendency to take the thrill out of things. I used to be a crazy horror-movie obsessed geek too. Now I see them for what they are, mostly formulaic and boring filled with the same tired cliches over and over again. Remember being a teen and pulling off a Mortal Kombat fatality for the first time? Woo!!!
