Love this movie! I do have a question. It seems that the father/husband just returned overnight and died? I was a little unclear what happened there.

shareI'm not sure either. At first I thought it was the husband's mother who had passed. We do know that the husband was out womanizing, I assume with prostitutes. So maybe he was doing other illegal activities, such as drugs and overdosed?
shareHe probably just got some sort of sickness and died and unfortunately I think that the wife spent a lot of money trying to save him too.
shareOne detail I noticed was, it was said that the husband has done it few times, taking all of the family's money and not returning until he has spent it all. But this time when he returned he still had some jewelry left he was holding in his hand. Perhaps that is a hint that he has made a minor improvement and has not completely forgotten his family.
shareI think the scene of him holding the unspent money and jewelry was to show he returned prematurely due to a serious health problem. Usually he'd party until he ran out of money but they included that shot to show us that something was different and more profound this time.
