What young kid at his age would watch Amadeus???

The scene that always bugged me was when Danny knows that Practice shouldn't be trusted because, "He killed Mozart," and explains to Slater that the actor was from Amadeus and the film won 8 Oscars.

Why would a kid at his age even watch Amadeus?!?! We're talking about the same kid that watched Hamlet and day-dreamed that Schwarzenegger was in it. Do you really think he would sit through Amadeus in a serious manner?!?!?

I shouldn't judge Amadeus. I never saw the movie and probably never will. it's got a score of 8.4 on IMDB so it's a no-brainer it deserves 8 Oscars. But when I was a kid, the movies I concentrated more on were Disney cartoons, action movies, and Sci-Fi and could care less how many awards they won. Amadeus does not land in any of those categories.

Action was the kid's passion, but it wouldn't be hard to believe that he was a film buff. And even if he was made to watch it at school, I bet he managed to watch the entire thing with no problem (maybe not in a serious manner but he still watched it). It's also possible the teacher showed the class just a couple of scenes from the movie. Or maybe Nick let him watch all of Slater's movies for free after he made the kid watch a couple of "real" films with him, and one of those was Amadeus. Either way, this particular kid watched it.

I agree with the poster who said that Danny's mom made him watch it. My parents used to make me, my 2 older sisters, and my older brother watch Places in the heart and Driving Miss Daisy when we were all under the age of 10.

We all watched Amadeus, and the kid loved going to the movies. They also played it for us at school. I remember watching it multiple times. It's a great movie that kids can enjoy.

My music teacher played Amadeus for us in middle school, where kids are usually between about 11-13. Considering that the kid in this movie is supposed to be some type of preteen movie savant, I don't think that scene is far fetched at all. Probably one of the least far fetched scenes in the entire movie.

Seeing the movie is believable. Knowing it won 8 Oscars really seems like something a kid wouldn't know or care about. Especially back then when most people didn't have the internet. Maybe it's because as a kid I couldn't care less about the Oscars.

Good point. He wouldn't have known the Oscar count for the movie.

When I was his age I liked the play Hamlet (granted, my motivation was that Hamlet was the name of our basset hound).

I watched half of Amadeus during my freshman high school music class. We weren't able to finish it, and my teacher had no intentions on finishing the movie in class. I specifically went to my teacher and asked to borrow the tape, which he did, and I watched the rest of it that night.

At 13, I thought it was an amazing movie, because I found the manner of murder diabolical. It's really a murder mystery to me, more than a musical or historic piece.

And I'm a cinema junkie, like this kid was.
