BEST GERMAN MOVIE!!

hey folks around the world! If you want to see good & intelligent cinema from germany, then watch "der himmel über berlin" and his sequel "in weiter ferne so nah", which is even better, in my opinion! great cast, great story and a great cinematography makes it to the best german movie ever made!!

I will definitely agree that Der Himmel Uber Berlin is a fantastic film, but In Weiter fern, So nah! is not of the same caliber. It's great at moments but it lacks that which made Der Himmel so stunning.

I do recommend both films highly; the artistic technique is masterful. But both films absolutely fall apart in the last 30 mins. And I mean total collapse.

Solvieg's speech at the end of Himmel was painful. And I won't even go into the ending of In weiter Ferne.

It's very frustrating, because I think Wim Wenders is one of the most talented directors I've ever seen, and he comes up with the most interesting storylines. I think he just has a problem ending them.

Personally, I would love to see a fusion of Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog. Herzog's movies start out slow but have great endings, while Wenders movies start out great and end weak. If they could combine the best of each, wouldn't they be a great German team?

P.S. My favourite German movies are
1. Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes (Herzog)
2. Until the End of the World (Wenders)

I actually found the last half-hour of "Wings of Desire" to be amazing - sometimes I'll skip straight to his transformation when I'm watching the movie, which I know I shouldn't do, but I own it so it's okay. However, I understand what you're saying about the ending for "Faraway, So Close." I think it does fall apart there.

I love "Der Himmel Uber Berlin," but I found "In Weiter Ferne So Nah" a major disappointment.

Das Boot is awesome too

I totally agree with you!
Both movies are great, but "Faraway, so close!" is my favourite. It really doesn't have a love story going on, like "Wings of desire", but I think it's closer to us, viewers. I felt like Cassiel was watching the movie with me while I was watching it. Crazy, I know, but that's what it made me think of...
Not to talk about the music... absolutely outstanding!
I guess these two are my favourite movies ever!

Laterne: I had the same experience when watching this movie.

Yes,it's great,it is my favorite too,I mean,it was more exciting to watch it comparing to Wings of Desire(which is also amazing, don't get me wrong). But I loved how Cassiel was confusing and lost as a human.
