No romance cut

On TV in Japan they showed a version edited for time that completely cut out the romance. Which also meant they cut most of the scenes where it's just Rene Russo and Clint Eastwood talking. It may sound odd, but I think the no romance version makes more sense and is a lot tighter.

I hated the romance. Seemed really shoe horned in. There were a couple cliches that I saw coming a mile away that distracted from an otherwise excellent movie.

That sounds a lot better. Just saw it for the first time wished they would have cut that useless plot

I actually quite liked those scenes. Thought the dialogue between them was actually quite sharp and their chemistry was believable too.

Yeah on balance I like it, it does slow things down but gives Clint’s character some more depth. It also plays nicely at the end where Mitch’s answerphone message from the grave tries to make out they’re both men destined for loneliness, but Frank has actually found love.
